The City of Port Colborne is looking an an enthusiastic candidate with a strong background in GIS software, spatial data analysis, and a keen eye for detail for the role of GIS Analyst. Reporting to the Supervisor of Asset Management, the GIS Analystwill be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting geographic information to support various projects and initiatives within the corporation.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
Establish and maintain a GISMaster plan to develop and maintain up to date GIS databases across all City of Port Colborne Departments. This includes reviewing and establishing user needs and a determination of overall and specific system objectives, developing and initiating an action plan to implement the approved GIS Master planin collaboration with the Supervisor of Asset Management.
Plan and develop documents, and maintain and enforce policies and procedures respecting the administration, use, maintenance and security of the City’s GIS resources and conduct periodic inspection/validation exercises to ensure compliance.
Responsible for maintaining security on GIS applications and databases, including backup and recovery procedures.
Organize, direct and supervise the coordination of GIS data between user departments to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and system integrity.
Assist in the preparation of a presentation to Council of the GIS Development Plan in conjunction with the annual budget, as needed.
Collect, manage, and maintain geographic data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
Perform spatial analyses to support project needs, including spatial statistics, overlayanalysis, and proximity analysis.
Create high-quality maps and visual representations of geographic data for reports and presentations.
Develop and maintain GIS databases, ensuring data integrity and security.
Provide technical support and training to team members on GIS tools and applications.
Develop and implement process improvements with respect to GIS applications.
Assist in the preparation of materials and provision of in-servicing training with regard to the GIS.
Provide general, technical consulting support to customers with respect to GIS applications.
Research and provide advice on GIS software and hardware acquisitions, maintenance and upgrades.
Prepare cost and performance comparisons, conduct pilot tests and supervise installation of approved products.
Coordinate GIS activities and requests of municipal departments and agencies. Maintain a professional liaison with counterparts in other jurisdictions by pursuing an active role in external professional organizations.
Oversee the GIS systems at the City of Port Colborne and coordinate development with other government agencies and community partners in GIS mapping projects.

This is a unionized position based on 35 hours per week with an hourly rate of $37.17 per hour (under review) plus a competitive compensation package, including Omers Pension Plan.
