GOTV Campaign Coordinator Fall 2026

Job Description - GOTV Campaign Coordinator Fall 2026

JOB SUMMARY

The GOTV Campaign Coordinator reports to the Director of Research and Advocacy (DRA). In compliance with the UASU's Nonpartisan Political Policy, the Coordinator runs informative, student-focused Get Out The Vote (GOTV) campaign activities for federal, provincial, and municipal elections and referendums. These campaign activities focus on face-to-face outreach to students on campus.

This is a high-trust role responsible for engaging students in ways that are highly visible to the campus community, counterpart organizations, and all levels of government.

This is a term position whose duration will depend on when a government election or referendum takes place in relation to the academic year. The Coordinator works 20 hours per week, primarily based in-person out of the Students' Union Building (SUB), with regular travel around North Campus and the potential to visit other U of A campuses.

This posting is intended to fill 1-2 potential Coordinator positions to run a nonpartisan GOTV campaign for the October 2026 Alberta referenda. Applications are anticipated to close in mid to late August depending on the candidate pool received.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a team of GOTV volunteers to conduct campaign activities as capacity allows. Campaign activities may include conducting intercepts (e.g. tabling), distributing print materials, delivering class talks, collecting pledges to vote, or creating innovative outreach opportunities.

  • Work with department staff and the Vice President (External) to ensure all campaign activities reflect clear, consistent, and approved messaging.

  • Work with department staff and the Vice President (External) to ensure all campaign activities are in compliance with the UASU's Nonpartisan Political Policy, legislation, and University of Alberta policy.

  • As assigned, work with department staff to coordinate with other nonpartisan GOTV efforts.

  • As assigned, work with UASU Marketing and Communications staff to communicate with students and to ensure volunteers have appropriate materials.

  • As assigned, participate in volunteer recruitment and ensure student leaders at all levels can participate as volunteers.

  • As assigned, coordinate with UASU Student Events & Services staff to engage students in connection with events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a current University of Alberta undergraduate student.

  • To avoid conflicts of interest or duty, must not be working or formally volunteering for an election/referendum campaign, elected official, or political party at the relevant level of government during their term of employment. (For example, if hired as GOTV Campaign Coordinator for a federal election, they could not also be working for a federal candidate, official, or party at the same time.)

  • Experience in volunteer supervision would be a strong asset.

  • Experience in nonpartisan Get Out The Vote campaigns (e.g. New Majority or past UASU GOTV efforts) would be a strong asset.

  • Experience in community organizing or working in elections would be an asset.
