Job Description - Grade 8 Teacher

Two Middle School Teachers Required for the 2024/25 School Year DEPARTMENT: MCFN Education REPORTING TO: Director of Education/PrincipalDURATION: Full-Time, Temporary Employee LOCATION: Fort Chipewyan, AB We are currently seeking two teachers to join our team at the Fort Chipewyan Community High School (2 Middle School Grade 8 and 9 Teacher). The Mikisew Cree Education Authority seeks candidates with high professional standards who are willing to personalize learning to meet the needs of our students. We run a community-based education program that focuses on land-based learning and traditional teachings, while following the Alberta Program of Studies. With employment, candidate will have the opportunity to participate in land-based learning, travel through field trips, postsecondary institution tours and more. Fort Chipewyan Community High School was the 2023 Indspire National Organization Award recipient. (https://indspire.ca/events/guiding-the-journey/) Responsibilities: Builds positive and productive relationships with students, parents/guardians, peers and other in the school andlocal community to support student learning. Engages in career-long professional learning and critical reflection to improve teaching and learning. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of the Alberta Program of Studies Grade 8/9 curriculum. Applies a current and comprehensive repertoire of effective planning and instruction practices to meet thelearning needs of every student. Establishes, promotes, and sustains inclusive learning environments where diversity is embraced and everystudent is welcomes, cared for, respected and safe. Develops and applies foundational knowledge about Mikisew Cree First Nation, Athabasca Chipewyan FirstNation and Metis for the benefit of all the students. Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the legal frameworks and policies that provide thefoundations for the Alberta Education system. Willingness to participate in community activities, events, and programming will exponentially support studentand family relationship; therefore, increasing academic excellence and cultural, language and placeunderstanding. Additional duties as assigned by the Principal. Requirements: Bachelor of Education degree and a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. Experience working in Indigenous Communities is considered an asset. Aspiration for excellence in all competencies of the Teaching Quality Standard. Ability to work under minimal supervision. Knowledge of the Woodland Cree and/or Dene culture is desired. Valid class five (5) drivers license with a clean criminal record & vulnerable record check is required.
