Hours: Standard Days; includes occasional evenings and weekends (37.5 hours/wk)

Niigaaniin is looking for a Gwawenijige, Case Manager-Guardianship Services Ontario to join our team. If you are an out of the box thinker with a proven track record of working with Indigenous Community Members...Then you need to apply and join our Niigaaniin Team! 



Requirements:



  • It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation, 

  • Degree in Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Social Work, or a related discipline,

  • Several years of experience in estate administration, trust services, guardianship, financial services, legal administration, or public sector case management,

  • Knowledge of Ontario legislation relating to substitute decision-making,

  • Experience interpreting legislation and policies,

  • Experience preparing legal and financial documentation,

  • Ability to manage complex, sensitive, and confidential cases,

  • Professional designations such as CPA, JD, TEP (Trust and Estate Practitioner), Certified Executor Advisor (CEA), or Certified Financial Planner (CFP) may be considered assets depending on the position,

  • Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment,

  • Must be Proficient in MS Office Applications, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet.

  • Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position.

  • Driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be considered and asset.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,

  • Familiar with community services networks and knowledge of Niigaaniin Services would be an asset,

  • Ability to work in a performance-based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential,

  • Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities,

  • All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population,

  • Demonstrated ethical decision-making, integrity, accountability, and professional judgment when managing complex, sensitive, and high-risk matters,

  • Commitment to Community Member service excellence through respectful, culturally responsive, and person-centred service delivery,

  • Strong knowledge of Ontario guardianship legislation, estate and trust administration, probate practices, fiduciary law, financial management, accounting principles, taxation of trusts and estates, investment management, adult protection principles, privacy legislation, and public administration,

  • Proven ability to provide sound financial stewardship through financial analysis, trust accounting, estate administration, budgeting, and oversight of assets and resources,

  • Strong analytical thinking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret legislation, assess risk, and make informed decisions,

  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and work cooperatively with Community Members, families, legal representatives, service providers, and stakeholders,

  • Excellent communication, report writing, interviewing, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to navigate complex and sensitive situations,

  • Strong case management, investigation, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet legislative and operational deadlines,

  • High level of attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and discretion when handling financial, legal, and personal information, and

  • Adaptable and culturally aware, with the ability to work effectively in diverse environments and respond to changing needs and priorities.
