Job Description - Head and District Chief - Division of Orthopedic Surgery, Department of Surgery - Halifax

Company Description

The Department of Surgery, Dalhousie University/Nova Scotia Health are jointly recruiting a new academic and administrative leader for the Division of Orthopedic Surgery to be based at the QEII Health Sciences Centre.

The Division’s orthopedic surgeons provide tertiary care services to the province of Nova Scotia (population of approximately 1.09 million) and quaternary orthopedic care services to the Maritime provinces.  Nova Scotia Health is the largest provider of health services in Nova Scotia.  We have over 22,000 employees who provide health care and support services in hospitals, health centers and community-based programs throughout Nova Scotia. 

Job Description

To be considered for this position you bring significant leadership, clinical and educational skills, and administrative experience to this exciting role.  You have an established record of accomplishments in clinical service and experience as a contributor in an interprofessional team.  You will be an advocate for the Division of Orthopedic surgery and will work across the organization to ensure a positive environment and experience for patients, physicians and clinical mission of the Division of Orthopedic surgery. Division members have excellent opportunities for collaborative educational and research endeavors, and a key role of the Head will be to ensure rewarding and fulfilling career development. 

An academic appointment at the appropriate level will be granted in the Department of Surgery of Dalhousie University.  The Department offers a renumeration package under an alternative funding plan. 

Qualifications

Other requirements include certification in orthopedic surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent with eligibility for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.  Qualifications and expertise in research or education are considered important attributes.
