Job Description - Head Coach, Tennis (Summer) REPOSTED

(Weekly Sessions: Wednesday’s June 5-August 28, 2024 5:00 – 8:00 pm)

The Town of Wasaga Beach, Recreation, Events and Facilities Department is seeking two part-time Tennis Coaches for the town run tennis lessons and league programs. Candidates should be energetic and enthusiastic individuals with a passion for the sport and able to coach adults, children and youth.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Recreation Programmer your responsibilities will include assisting with skill assessment, skill development and coaching individuals as well as group supervision, lesson planning implementation, progress tracking, evaluation and parent communication.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • Plan, organize and deliver high quality safe and stimulating tennis lessons and league play for all levels of participants;
  • Keep current with industry trends and new class formats;
  • Provide a high level of front line customer service;
  • Communicate with participants in regards to lesson opportunities and accident prevention;
  • Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and be ready to respond to any emergency situation •
  • Supervise and mentor volunteers and assistants;
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (eg. attendance, incident/accident reports, opening and closing procedures);
  • Maintain a safe and tidy program space ensuring equipment is set-up and stored appropriately;
  • Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to immediate supervisor for follow up and take appropriate action;
  • Maintain an understanding of department programs and services
  • Understand, adhere to, and enforce Corporate Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff;
  • Attend meetings/training as required;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 16+ years of age
  • Coach 1 Certificate from Tennis Canada
  • 1+ years of experience teaching tennis considered an asset
  • Current Standard First Aid / CPR C from an accredited organization, or ability to obtain within 1 month of date of hire
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills;
  • Clean vulnerable sector criminal records check;
  • Friendly disposition with ability to coach children and adults of different ages.

Head Coach, Tennis (1)
  • Develop, implement and deliver course/program curriculum;
  • Supervise program participants, ensure staff – participant ratios are met;
  • Provide leadership to assistant coaches and volunteers;
  • Maintain communication with program participants and/or students and parents to provide updates;
  • Provide exceptional customer service and promote town of Wasaga beach recreation programs;
  • Responsible for communications with Recreation Programmer and disseminating appropriate information to program participants and staff;
  • Track attendance, stats and develop program reports;
  • Maintain sport, coaching or instructing accreditation and good standing with accrediting organization;
  • Make on-site decisions regarding safety of participants, including inclement weather and court surface conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Rate of Pay Range: $27.76 – $32.47 per hour
