We are currently looking for a Head of Development to join our M Renewables team in Canada. The person filling this position would be responsible for growing the renewables portfolio in Canada and the USA via acquisition/greenfielding and progressing projects development activities through to construction. This role manages two key development verticals: Business development and project development.
Your role will encompass:
Responsible for growing the renewables portfolio in North America (focus on Canada) via acquisition/greenfielding and progressing development activities through to construction.
Accountable for managing, leading, and supervising managers and analysts of the two segmeneted Development teams; Business Development (M&A, partnerships, financial modeling) and Project Development (greenfielding, site control, permitting, environmental studies, interconnection, stakeholder relations, and regulatory matters).
Originate acquisition opportunities in North American markets by developing and cultivating relationships with bankers, advisors, developers, and key stakeholders and inform the Country Manager (Canada) of new opportunities, market insights and trends
Lead transaction processes from origination through execution and handoffs: bid submissions, deal structuring, valuation, coordinating due-diligence with internal SMEs, financing, and executing definitive documents.
Prepare pitch books / investment memoranda and presenting the transaction’s investment thesis/rationale to the Country Manager (Canada), the Regional Managing Director – North America, and Metlen's internal investment and risk committees ensuring clear communication of risks, opportunities, and strategic alignment.
Develop and execute North American (focus on Canada) greenfield strategy to grow renewables project pipeline.
Ensure projects pipeline continues advancement of preconstruction activities on schedule, within budget, and with risks routinely identified and mitigated.
Provide guidance in negotiations and strategies with external parties (developers, PPA off-takers, co-investors, lenders, and government stakeholders) and internal stakeholders (EPC, PPA and Origination, O&M, Project Finance, Legal, and Treasury/Accounting teams).
Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including government agencies, local communities, developers, and investors to support project development strategy
Co-ordinate with internal and external stakeholders to define and validate technical, financial, taxation and structuring assumptions.
Participate in project handoffs from Business Development to Project Development and Project Development to EPC teams.
Participate in project financings answering relevant diligence questions and providing required documents.
Develop and maintain insights on the local renewable energy markets (regulations, trends, key players)
