Job Description - Health and Safety Advisor

RWC is a leading commercial drywall and steel stud contractor with operations across Western Canada. For over 45 years, we have built a reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and excellence.



We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to support our growing commercial construction operations throughout the Calgary area. This role offers the opportunity to lead local safety initiatives, build strong relationships with field crews and management, and serve as a visible presence on job sites to promote safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will also play a key role in mentoring and developing a health and safety professional, helping to strengthen our safety culture as we continue to grow.


Primary Responsibilities



  • Promote the company’s Health and Safety Program.

  • Work closely with Site Superintendents and General Contractors to implement and maintain safe work procedures and practices across multiple projects.

  • Foster a strong safety culture on job sites through regular inspections, coaching, and proactive engagement.

  • Develop, evaluate, and implement health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and documentation.

  • Train, mentor, and support junior safety team members on assigned projects.

  • Assist with WCB claims management, injury reporting, and return-to-work programs.

  • Prepare and present weekly and monthly safety reports, metrics, and analytics to Site Superintendents and the Safety Manager.

  • Work together in providing site safety orientations and on-going job training.

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations for employees and subcontractors.

  • Conduct investigations into workplace incidents, injuries, and near-miss events, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Lead health and safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety awareness initiatives.

  • Assist Site Supervisors in developing and maintaining site-specific fall protection plans.

  • Assist in the Company’s annual COR audit certification.


 


Skills and Qualifications



  • Previous experience in a health and safety role is required.

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, or a related field is considered an asset.

  • Previous experience in the construction industry is considered an asset.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.

  • Current First Aid certification.

  • Strong knowledge of WCB Alberta regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organization, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
