McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH), located on the McMaster University campus in Hamilton’s beautiful Westdale neighbourhood, has been providing care to children from across the region since 1988. Here, patients ranging in age from infancy to 18 years and benefit from a family-centred approach that prioritizes the child’s emotional, mental, and physical well-being. 
The hospital is home to the fastest-growing kids-only emergency department in Ontario, one of Canada’s most advanced neonatal intensive care units, and a range of programs and clinics with unique expertise in a number of areas including children’s cancer, digestive diseases, and mental health.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at McMaster Children’s Hospital is a robust department, comprised of 12 level 3 critical care beds, and 4 level 2 step down beds, a Pediatric Critical Care Response team and a newly formed Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team, all which provide medical and surgical care to children and their families across southern Ontario. The interdisciplinary team provides family centered care with a strong focus on evidence based best practice and continuous improvement initiatives. The unit provides specialized care to complex, surgical, oncologic, orthopedic, trauma and medical pediatric patient populations utilizing a collaborative approach. The PICU team engages in advanced therapies including continuous renal replacement therapy, therapeutic plasma exchange, and organ donation.

1. Personal Support Worker or Health Care Aide Certificate, or nursing student with successful completion of all level 2 courses of an accredited BScN program, or successful completion of semester 2 courses of a Practical Nursing Program.
2. Previous inpatient, pediatrics, and/or critical care experience preferred
3. Computer familiarity or willingness to learn computer skills as required
4. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, teamwork skills
5. Demonstrated initiative and judgement appropriate for the position
6. Ability to accept assigned or delegated functions
7. Ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly
8. Ability to deal with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
9. Ability to lift using appropriate lifting techniques and bend, push and pull using good body mechanics
10. Complete Heart and Stroke Foundation course in CPR preferred
