Supporting the Robinson Huron Treaty Area 



Niigaaniin is looking for a Health Outreach Worker!


Job Type: Full Time including Benefits and Pension


Location: 2 Veteran's Way, Elliot Lake Ontario


Hours of Work: Rotating shifts based on programming including; daytime, evenings and Saturday's. 


Annual Salary Range: $52,000 - $57,000

Purpose  


Under the direction of the Enji Maawinjidiyaang Executive Director and/or designate the Enji Maawinjidiyaang Health Outreach Worker’s programs combine traditional and mainstream programs and services for the benefit of urban Indigenous communities.


The Health Outreach Worker offer peer counselling, crisis intervention, and traditional and cultural supports to direct-service users, but also provide advocacy and systems navigation to ensure equitable access to primary healthcare providers.


The Enji Maawinjidiyaang Health Outreach Worker will assist Urban Indigenous families and community members in accessing Enji Maawinjidiyaang via membership enrolment and participation in group and individual services, workshops and programs. 


 


Requirements:



  • It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation.

  • Diploma or degree in Social Services and/or equivalent experience,

  • Minimum of two (2) years direct services with children, youth, parents and/or family groups,

  • First Aid/CPR certified or open to training for certification,

  • Ability to work flexible hours,  

  • Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and  

  • Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position, and

  • Class G Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 



  • Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,

  • Knowledgeable about the culture and the significant characteristics of the social structure and relevant human services needs of Anishnawbe,

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures to ensure that children and youth are supervised and safe at all times,

  • Knowledge of the issues facing individuals with substance abuse/addictions
    concerns and of relevant support
    modalities,

  • Knowledge of case management and documentation
    practices,

  • Ability to facilitate workshops and programming while meeting target outcomes,

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality,

  • Ability to work in a performance-based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential,

  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook,

  • Excellent communication (verbal/written),

  • Efficient time management skills with adherence to timelines and deadline, and multitask in a fast-paced environment,

  • Able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities.


  • Ability to learn new skills and be flexible to adapt to changing workload, and

  • Excellent stress management skills,

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills,

  • Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities,

  • Familiar with community services networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset,

  • Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills,

  • Ability to coordinate programs and services,

  • Thorough understanding of the impacts of addictions on the individual, their family members and the
    community, and

  • Ability to engage people to build trust and rapport with children, youth and families; effective verbal and listening communication skills; excellent interviewing and counselling skills.
