Job Description - Heavy Duty Cleaner Night (Union)

Location: Central YMCA Health & Fitness Centre

Work Hours: 40 hours/week- Overnight Shift

Employment Type: Contract Salaried - Union Position

Number of Vacancies: 1

Anticipated Start Date: Immediately

The Central YMCA Centre is one of ten YMCA Health and Fitness centres in the GTA, providing a wide variety of health, fitness and recreation programs for a vibrant community of over 10,000 members who represent the diversity of the Toronto community.

In this role, you will:

  • Do heavy duty cleaning including shower areas, floors, walls and equipment
  • Operate cleaning equipment including scrubbing machines, buffers and burnishes, pressure washer and vacuums
  • Undertake cleaning operations as per instructions of the supervisor, which may include light duty cleaning as needed
  • Adhere to all YMCA of Greater Toronto Policies and to Priority SAM cleaning and maintenance standards.
  • Adhere to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and WHIMIS safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Understand the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
  • Understand the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • You bring:

  • Completion of high school education
  • Minimum of three year “hands-on” heavy duty cleaning experience in a commercial establishment
  • Knowledge of laundry operations preferred
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environment
  • Previous front-line, proven performance & relationship building in customer service
  • Ability to work independently
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers;
