Position Overview:

The Heavy Equipment Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment, including excavators and loaders, across multiple YORK1 sites. The home base for this position will be the Vaughan Transfer station, with travel to all GTA sites, Hamilton, and occasionally Muskoka as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment (excavators and loaders).


• Perform daily inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on assigned equipment.


• Support site operations by moving, loading, and compacting solid, non-hazardous waste.


• Travel between job sites (within GTA, Hamilton, and occasionally Muskoka) on an as-needed basis.


• Work outdoors in all weather conditions while adhering to safety regulations and company policies.


• Collaborate with a small crew (4–6 team members) to complete operational objectives.


• Maintain accurate records and follow all standard operating procedures.


• Perform additional duties as required.
  
  

Qualifications & Skills:

Must-Haves:

• Valid G driver’s license with reliable transportation.


• 3–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment.


• Strong attendance and reliability.


• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.


• Willingness to work day and night shifts:
  
  
  
  • Day shift: 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  
  
  • Night shift: 12:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
  
  
  • Weekend shifts every other weekend, as required.
    
    
  
  
  
  

Nice-to-Have (Assets):

• Basic computer skills (an asset for scale operations and training opportunities).


• Previous experience in waste management, construction, or similar environments.


• Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
