Honour Guard - Internal

Job Description - Honour Guard - Internal

Position: Honour Guard
Posting Type: Internal
Application Opening: January 20, 2026
Application Deadline: February 11, 2026

The Brantford Police Service is inviting its sworn members to apply for five (5) spots in the expansion of the Chief’s Honour Guard.

EXPECTATION OF MEMBERS

  • Honour Guard members will take part in the yearly training, which takes place in April for two days and consists of Drill and Colour Party training.

  • Honour Guard members are expected to commit to a minimum of three years’ service.

  • Members of the Honour Guard are expected to volunteer their time at various events throughout the year.

  • Fifty per cent attendance at the designated events listed below is required to remain with the Honour Guard. (Consideration will be given to Honour Guard members' work schedules and the required number of Honour Guards at any particular event.)

  • The Honour Guard, when attending approved events outside of the City of Brantford as determined by the Chief of Police, will be provided with transportation and shared accommodation where necessary.

  • On-duty participation at Honour Guard events (training or functions) will be considered for local events and will be dependent upon operational needs and staffing levels.

DEPLOYMENT AND USAGE

The Honour Guard will represent the Brantford Police Service at various events, as determined by the Chief of Police, which may include:

  • Brantford Police Service funerals;

  • police funerals within the Province of Ontario;

  • Ontario Police Memorial in Toronto;

  • National Police Memorial in Ottawa;

  • Canada Day ceremony;

  • Remembrance Day ceremony; and

  • select award ceremonies and important public events.

The applicants will be reviewed by the Inspector of Operations and the Honour Guard Commander. Although past drill experience can be a factor in determining those who will be chosen, it is not a pre-requisite for the applicant. A basic understanding of drill from the applicant’s time as a cadet from the Basic Constable Training Course is solid starting point for all new members. In their application the sworn member should provide any experience in drill, marching or Colour Party experience.

Interested applicants are asked to submit their letter of interest electronically by Wednesday, February 11, 2026, by 4:00 pm.
