Atlohsa Family Healing Services is seeking a motivated and compassionate individual to fill the role of Housing Outreach Coordinator. The primary responsibility of this position is to lead and support the daily operations of the Street Outreach Team and all associated supports, ultimately working toward the goal of alleviating Indigenous homelessness in London.
Role and Responsibility
Using Indigenous-led approaches grounded in the principles of harm reduction and housing first, the Housing Outreach Coordinator will both provide leadership for the Street Outreach Team and program support to Indigenous community members who may be experiencing homelessness, social stigma, mental health challenges, trauma, human trafficking, and/or substance abuse. This role requires a team-oriented approach, demonstrating leadership and commitment to the well-being and empowerment of Indigenous community members.
Key responsibilities include:
Program Leadership: Organize and oversee outreach routes, shifts, program outcomes, and team operations. Ensure that members of the Street Outreach Team have the resources they need to succeed in their roles, and that the needs of the Street Outreach Team are communicated to other relevant teams. Ensure that initiatives (such as Free Food Fridays) are successfully coordinated.
Community Advocacy: Engage in advocacy and participate in community development opportunities to support the needs of unsheltered Indigenous peoples.
Geo-Mapping and Analysis: Track and analyze the migratory routes of Indigenous individuals experiencing homelessness using geo-mapping tools.
Partnership and Collaboration: Consult and collaborate with management and community partners to advance efforts in alleviating Indigenous homelessness within the City of London.
Education and Awareness: Contribute to community education initiatives, promoting awareness and understanding of Indigenous homelessness and human trafficking.
Safe Space Facilitation: Ensure that Atlohsa Family Healing Services remains a safe and welcoming space for all community members accessing services and programming.
Suitability
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the languages, traditional ways, history, and cultures of the Indigenous population in the London region.
Strong understanding of colonialism and its intergenerational impacts on Indigenous peoples.
Comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous homelessness and harm reduction practices.
Experience working with marginalized individuals through a trauma-informed lens.
Understanding of the needs of unsheltered individuals and the ability to support a diverse community.
Willingness to work in outdoor environments across various weather and terrain conditions.
Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and crisis intervention skills.
Knowledge of Atlohsa’s outreach operations.
Ability to apply conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation techniques to build trust and resolve disagreements.
Effective written and verbal communication skills with a commitment to respectful interactions, as outlined in the Atlohsa Code of Conduct.
Current Vulnerable Sector Check required
Valid G license, with clean driving record required.
EMPLOYMENT TERM: Permanent; full-time CLOSING DATE: April 25, 2024 REMUNERATION:
$32.00 per hour
