POSITION SUMMARY The Human Resources Advisor supports Westbank First Nation (WFN) by guiding and advising leaders and staff, in consultation with the HR Manager and Director, through the delivery of a broad range of services. This role touches all areas of people management including, but not limited to, recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, disability prevention and management, and talent and performance management. Operating within a portfolio model, the HR Advisor supports designated departments; however, these portfolios are dynamic and may evolve in response to organizational priorities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Previous experience working in a local government or First Nation organization is considered an asset
Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent in Human Resources or related field required
5+ years of senior Human Resources experience an asset
CPHR preferred
Direct experience with employment law, employee relations and claims management
Previous experience working in a local government or First Nation environment is considered an asset
A combination of education & experience may be considered

Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES
Advises Management on all Human Resources functional areas including; recruitment, onboarding, performance and change management, employee relations, organizational effectiveness, workforce planning and succession planning
Coaches and motivates employees and leaders in relationship development, providing constructive and, at times, difficult feedback in addressing employee relation issues
Assists Legal Counsel with internal investigations
Acts as a point of contact for employee relations matters and works with management to achieve solutions that are optimal for the employee and department, that also fit Westbank First Nation’s values
Supports the implementation of HR policies, projects and programs, focused on enhancing performance and growth
Participates in developing Human Resources department goals, objectives and programs, including respectful workplace and health and safety/wellness initiatives
Analyzes Human Resources information to identify trends/issues within the department and proactively develops solutions based on Human Resources programs, policies and processes
Works closely with the Recruitment Advisor and Hiring Managers to support the recruitment process by developing and maintaining job descriptions, wage grid evaluation, and participating on interview panels when requested
Works with the leadership team and the Human Resources department to implement programs that improve the employee experience and raise employee engagement through such avenues as employee engagement surveys and one-to-one meetings
Coaches Managers and Directors regarding employee development plans, performance management, disability management and change management support and leads/participates in organizational Human Resources projects as needed
Participates in regular benchmarking compensation surveys and analysis alongside HR Management
Participates in annual Compensation Management/Salary Planning process alongside HR Management
Supports and identifies training needs, workshops or information sessions pertaining to Human Resources programs and presents to employees at all levels
Partners with managers regarding the workforce planning process to understand their needs, identify talent gaps and propose and implement changes necessary to address risks, effectively communicating with various stakeholders throughout while ensuring accuracy of information at each step of the process
A role model for professionalism when representing Westbank First Nation internally and externally
Ensures employee on/off boarding programs are aligned with department need
May be asked to oversee the Disability Management workflow which includes but not limited to: monitoring employees on STD, LTD leaves or WCB claims, and ensuring managers are kept apprised of return to work status, and payroll is notified of any employee status changes in collaboration with the Human Resources Manager
Portfolios assigned to HR Advisors are subject to change based on organizational needs. The HR Manager reserves the right to reassign or modify portfolios at their discretion, with appropriate notice and in alignment with change management practices.
Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Westbank First Nation policies, standards and procedures, and as requested by the Manager, Human Resources
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Strong business acumen with thorough problem-solving skills
Excellent computer skills, knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) and demonstrated skills in record keeping
Ability to navigate a dynamic, fast pace environment
Demonstrated leadership in change management
Resourceful and resilient; strong organization skills with the ability to effectively respond to continually changing internal and external organizational conditions
The median salary for this position is: $87,602.82
