Job Description - HR Business Partner

RESPONSIBILITIES: 



  1. Supports the NVS Model of Service, Mission, Vision and Values.

  2. Assist in developing, implementing and reviewing human resources, staffing and disability management policies, standards and procedures.

  3. Ensure HR practice is in compliance with all collective agreements and legislation such as Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code and Labour Relations Code, licensing requirements and any requirements for external reporting.

  4. Assist in developing and implementing the strategy for Learning and Development programs, including delivering workshops, seminars, lunch & learns, and other training programs.

  5. Partner with key stakeholders to identify knowledge and skills gaps and create innovative learning solutions for all team members that align with business needs

  6. Assist in developing leadership development programs to support people development priorities such as performance management, career development, conflict resolution, employee engagement and change management

  7. Evaluate the current onboarding and orientation program and implement structure and process to ensure that learning outcomes are achieved

  8. Provide advice and guidance to management, staffing and staff regarding the interpretation and administration of collective agreements.

  9. Assist in developing an action plan in alignment with our DEI and People & Culture Strategic Plan as well as industry and global best practices, and oversee resources and programs related to DEI, including hiring and search practices aimed at developing a representative and inclusive organizational culture.

  10. Provide support to senior leadership/managers in recruitment of staff. Participate in the selection of staff, as appropriate.

  11. Collaborates with colleagues to develop and implement internal and external communications, including development and maintenance of the organization’s DEI related internal and external webpages.

  12. Assist in designing, implementing and managing other HR programs including labour relations, claims management, Occupational Health and Safety, job evaluation and classification.

  13. Lead all Disability Management programs including EDMP and Return to Work processes; Liaise with employees, managers and other stakeholder to ensure the safe and timely return to work of employees while ensuring compliance with legal and operational requirements.

  14. Liaise effectively with union and EDMP stewards, Work Safe and Insurance representatives and HEABC representatives (if required), and employees for effective negotiation and resolution of disputes. Coordinate all documentation and correspondence relating thereto.

  15. Develop and maintain an effective attendance improvement program from a Disability Management Perspective

  16. Supports the Director, People and Culture in employee relations and provides consultation, advise and administrative direction to directors, managers and employees on HR and Labour Relations, and Disability Management matters.

  17. Develop and maintain employee surveys, metrics and KPIs to track strategic performance and deliver insightful analysis of data and reports

  18. Ensure regular communication with staff via regular town hall meetings, staff newsletters, sharepoint, emails and other methods as appropriate.

  19. Coordinate annual recognition events for staff.

  20. Promote staff health, safety, well-being and work-life balance by participating in and supporting wellness initiatives.

  21. Support New Vista Society’s learning plan by maintaining a system of tracking staff participation, attendance and providing general orientation to new staff and yearly education for all staff.

  22. Coordinate and attend Labour & Management meetings, if required. Maintain records of all current and resolved grievances.

  23. Support members of the leadership team in handling grievance meetings and assist Director, People & Culture in representing the organization at WCAT hearings and arbitrations, if needed.

  24. Assist Director, People & Culture in developing essential service plans.

  25. Act as a back-up to managing HRIS by ensuring identified tasks are completed. Manage HR contents in Sharepoint.  Contact point for any IT/HRIS questions or issues.

  26. Develop and update job descriptions, if required.

  27. Manage HR database, and employee files and records, including data entry and generating required reports to support organizational requirements.

  28. Provides input to HR budgets and participates in process to prioritize. Monitors the operating budgets for Human Resources and Staffing Services.  Controls expenditures and provides rationale for negative variances. 

  29. Participate in committees and other organizational events as required.

  30. Perform other related duties as assigned


 


CREDENTIALS:



  • A Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management and/or Three (3) to Five (5) years of recent HR/LR and Disability Management experience

  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources or working towards the CPHR designation is preferred. Certificate in Rehabilitation and Disability Management is an asset

  • Strategic thinker, flexible and able to work through processes that transform goals to action and deliverables

  • Positive relationship management and collaboration skills combined with the ability to influence all stakeholders

  • Knowledge about Provincial Collective Agreements, Employment Standards and other legislations and regulations

  • Working knowledge of Human Resources Information system (HRIS), internal applicant tracking system for recruitment, and other applications

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft office suite, including Word, Excel, Sharepoint and Powerpoint

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and work in a multi-functional team environment and foster effective working relationships with managers, employees, union representatives, external benefit providers and other external and internal contacts

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience working in health care environment is an asset
