Job Description - HR Consultant - Compensation & Job Evaluation

Out of Scope

Full Time, temporary (18-month term with possibility of extension)

Work Location: This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, at the manager’s discretion. The successful candidate will be expected to meet the working from home requirements and sign a remote work agreement.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing research, analysis, design, advice and support for in-scope and out-of-scope job analysis, job documentation, job evaluation and compensation functions for SGI and SGI CANADA. Provides consultation and support to management for organizational structure changes. Administers job evaluation plans and, on a rotational basis, chairs the in-scope or out-of-scope job evaluation committee.  Administers compensation programs in alignment with policies and authorization limits. Participates survey completion and creation of custom surveys to enable data to ensure alignment with compensation philosophy.

Job Analysis, Documentation and Structure Changes

  • Collaborates with other areas of HR and management to support organizational structure changes, providing advice on alternate structure considerations, job design, job description and job evaluation impacts and alternative considerations relating to structure changes.

  • Advises and supports managers on the job description development process.

  • Identifies job content and job specifications using a variety of job information sources such as interviews, questionnaires, industry research job shadowing. 

  • Researches, develops, reviews, writes and maintains job descriptions ensuring adherence to established administration, protocols and quality standards.

Job Evaluation

  • Administers the out-of-scope or in-scope JE plan, which may include chairing JE committee meetings.

  • Advises and supports management on the JE processes, the interpretation and administration of the JE/classification portions of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and JE policies and procedures.

  • Ensures all documentation is prepared for JE meetings ensuring consistent application of policies, processes and the JE tool. Attends JE meetings, speaks to jobs and facilitates and/or participates in evaluation discussions with committee.

  • Collaboratively works with JE Lead to refine the alignment of JE.

  • Supports JE Committee members to ensure understanding of the JE tool and process in order to effectively represent their division’s jobs at JE meetings.

Compensation Administration

  • Designs, develops and conducts in-house salary surveys, including determining relevant companies and jobs, compiling and analyzing data, and preparing summary and recommendation reports.

  • Completes external salary surveys and responds to requests for compensation-related information. 

  • Compiles and analyzes data from multiple survey sources to determine market rates and external pay competitiveness.

  • Conducts internal salary equity reviews and makes recommendations for salary adjustments.

  • Drafts compensation-related information items for management review.

  • Provides guidance and advice to TADI on out-of-scope employment offers and completes offer letters.

  • Participates in the SHP and Merit payout process including conducting analysis, making recommendations on potential distributions and maintaining related spreadsheets and conducting reviews to ensure accuracy.

  • Supports research, review, design and recommendations on compensation structures and programs.

  • Builds and maintains relationships with local and industry peers and leverages relationships to inform compensation research and recommendations.

Corporate Management

  • Enables the success of programs and policies that are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies. 

  • Manages risk in area of authority.

  • Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility.

Education and Experience

  • Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study such as Business.

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation.

  • Five year’s related experience in compensation and/or job evaluation.

  • A Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation would be considered an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of job evaluation methods and processes (particularly the Korn-Ferry Hay Group method).

  • Knowledge of quantitative methods related to compensation and job evaluation.

  • Knowledge of job analysis and documentation methods and processes.

  • Knowledge of job matching and market pricing methodology.

  • Knowledge and skill in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Knowledge and ability to analyze, utilize and leverage multiple data sources to make recommendations that drive decision making.

  • Ability to write clearly, concisely and targeted to the audience.

Pay Range:$80,155.00 - $106,865.00
