Project Term (May – November)
Job Summary:
Reporting to and under the general direction of the Corporate HSE Manager, the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager, Major Projects actively promotes the health, safety, and environmental culture to all levels of employees with the policies and procedures of the Health, Safety and Environmental Program. This position is located part time in Kamloops, BC. and part time Valemount, BC.
Responsibilities:
Ensure all aspects of Health and Safety are legislatively compliant
Act as a safety champion, promoting a positive safety culture.
Influence and motivate a variety of people to ensure commitment to the overall HSE program and client safety requirements.
Development of safety plans, safe programs and campaigns to promote health and safety initiatives
Safety Performance monitoring and coaching to team leaders on performance
Maintain regular communication with project client on all HSE topics relevant to the project
Address non conformance incidents and implement action plans for improvement
Mentor HSE Advisors and provide direct management and task delegation
Conduct workplace inspections and incident investigations with complete root cause analysis, behavioural observations and audits, and implement follow up actions
Support and assist in the development of return to work and modified work programs
Develop and implement site specific workplace safety plans (emergency response plans, traffic management, fall protection, etc)
Oversee the site-specific orientation and other relevant safety presentations for employees, owners, sub-contractors and clients, initiating development and updates in collaboration with HSE Advisors
Working in tandem with the Training Coordinator, facilitate and/or coordinate training on all relevant HSE topics
Prepare internal safety audits
Collection and analysis of statistics to identify trends and implement solutions
Develop safety alerts and bulletins based on relevant topics and identified trends
Other duties as required to support health and safety initiatives.
Requirements:
CRSP or CRST designation is required for client site access
Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety study, Hygiene and or other relevant education is an asset
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience managing occupational health, safety and environment (HSE) program or similar role in a dynamic, fast paced environment
Flexible to work long hours and out of town for extended period periods when required
Civil Construction and Pipeline Construction experience considered an asset
Superior communication skills (oral and written)
Sense of urgency with the ability to respond in a timely and efficient manner
Excellent organizational and planning skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities
Ability to utilize technology to create customized reporting to support business objectives
Intermediate user level in Microsoft Office Programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to follow through and deliver results
Must possess tact, diplomacy and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
Strong levels of personal and professional integrity
Experience working with First Nations people is valued
Knowledge of the Simpcw First Nations community is valued
