Overview:
Our client is currently seeking a Paralegal/Legal Administrative Assistant to support their busy Subrogation (plaintiff property) team in their Insurance Law practice group. The position provides an opportunity to work with a vibrant and team-oriented group of people. The successful candidate will have experience working in a Canadian law firm, be energetic, flexible, highly motivated and driven to succeed. You will be expected to apply knowledge of legal concepts and processes to assist lawyers throughout the entire litigation process and assist in generating correspondence and pleadings.
What you will be doing:
Draft correspondence
Draft court documents including pleadings, motions, affidavits, applications and list of documents
Conduct factual research and analyze liability and damages issues
Manage all trial preparation and support activity
Create and manage bring forward system pertaining to file management and follow up
Liaise with clients, experts and witnesses
Liaise with subrogation team regarding file progress
Organize meetings and schedule discoveries, trials, and other court dates and meetings
Manage and maintain bring forward system for tasks and appointments
Print, copy, scan, and save documents in document management system
Process all outgoing correspondence and sort incoming mail
Prepare expense reports-Prepare monthly accounts
Other general administrative support as required
What you must have:
A paralegal certificate from an accredited institution with experience working in a Canadian law firm
3 – 5 years’ experience in litigation; property matters would be an asset
Strong project management and organization skills with the ability to handle a high volume of active matters
Advanced technical skills including MS Word, MS Excel, and Database Management
Familiarity with e-Discovery software, RelativityOne, would be an asset
Excellent spelling, grammar and proofreading skills
Commitment to providing first-rate level of knowledge and prompt quality service to clients and internal stakeholders
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen effectively and respond appropriately
Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail to produce high quality and accurate work
Ability to work effectively both independently and as a contributing member in a team environment
Solid decision-making and problem-solving skills coupled with a willingness to learn and to adapt to changing demands
Ability to prioritize tasks by deadline, work calmly under pressure and manage high volume of work in a fast-paced environment
A high level of initiative and resourcefulness
Salary/Rate Range: $80,000 – $90,000 annually
