Our Human Resources Program group is looking for someone to join our team and support all our immigration needs. Could this position be for you?

We are looking for an Immigration Specialist who will be responsible for providing support with immigration matters for employees, visitors to our lab, and our recruitment efforts.

The successful candidate will work with all new employees, students, and visitors to support the immigration requirements for coming to TRIUMF and will be responsible for all documentation and maintenance of records. This position will also work with the Talent Attraction team to ensure all international recruitments adhere to the LMIA requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Employee Immigration:

  • Collecting information and processing employer required documents for temporary work permits, LMIAs, BCPNP, and Permanent Residency (PR) applications
  • Point of contact for all employees for initial work permits, extensions, and PR applications
  • Providing employees with immigration support and guidance in line with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) section 91 (1-10)
  • Providing leadership with guidance and support on immigration programs, pathways, procedures, and timelines
  • Ensuring employees have the required immigration documentation to work in their positions, including work and study permits and maintained status
  • Maintaining employee immigration records and ensuring employer compliance with IRCC for records and audits

Visitor Immigration

  • Conducting checks on TRIUMF visitors for eligibility under short term work permit exemptions
  • Collecting information and processing employer required documents for temporary work permits and extensions, including sending Visitor Work Permit Invitation Letters
  • Maintaining visitor immigration records and ensuring employer compliance with IRCC for records and audits
  • Maintaining Visitor Letter Templates for work permit exemptions to ensure they are up to date for current regulatory considerations
  • Providing visitors with immigration support and guidance in line with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) section 91 (1-10)

Talent Attraction

  • Reviews roles and labour market to determine if international recruitments are required and/or possible given current labour market
  • Reviewing roles to determine NOC code, minimum compensation required, and recruitment requirements
  • Provides guidance and instructions to hiring managers on their responsibilities and process requirements for international recruitments
  • Ensures Job Bank requirements are completed and properly recorded for LMIA recruitments
  • Reviews Offer Letters and associated templates to ensure immigration language is correct according to IRCC program, TRIUMF support, and employee responsibilities
  • Provides guidance and support to the Talent Attraction group for all recruitment related immigration matters

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

No supervisory responsibilities associated with the position.  Provides guidance to other employees within HR, and to employees and leaders across the organization.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Advanced knowledge of IRCC and ESDC regulations and associated immigration programs such as LMIA, TFWP, IMP, Global Talent Stream, and BCPNP
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and researching to find solutions for complex issues
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and handle multiple cases
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of confidentiality when dealing with personal and private information
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or an accredited diploma in Immigration Consulting
  • 5 years of consulting in private or public practice
  • Preference will be given to a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC)

This position offers a hybrid work model that combines the convenience of working remotely with the dynamism of working in our office.

Applicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).
