The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has an opening for eight (8) permanent full-time Inclusion Coach’ in the Child Care & Early Years division.


Job description


The Inclusion Coach provides on-site coaching and capacity-building to educators and supervisors in licensed child care settings and EarlyON programs. This role supports the implementation of inclusive practices through side-by-side mentorship, coaching and skill building, reflective practice, and hosting/delivering professional learning opportunities. Inclusion Coaches work primarily in direct service (90%+ of their time), building educator confidence and competence to support all children within the classroom environment.


Inclusion coaches are experts in early learning best practices and the challenges facing the sector. They are leaders that work to motivate and support child care staff so that these staff are capable of supporting and delivery high quality inclusive child care.


Essential responsibilities



  • Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies in all aspects of service delivery.

  • Provide on-site consultation, coaching, and mentoring to educators and supervisors across the Capacity Building Continuum.

  • Responsible, in part, for the success of the child care educators and supervisors assigned to them.

  • Collaborate with educators and families to develop and monitor Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and ensure alignment with inclusive practices.

  • Utilize evidence-informed observation, reflective tools, and, when required, screening instruments to support planning and inclusive practice.

  • Model inclusive strategies and recommend environmental adaptations, supportive/adaptive equipment, resources, and tools to strengthen classroom inclusion.

  • Deliver professional learning opportunities and contribute to communities of practice focused on inclusion and pedagogy; participate in sector committees and working groups as required.

  • Support educators in engaging families and building collaborative relationships to enhance inclusion.

  • Coordinate referrals and assist with transitions, including transition-to-school planning; attend consultative meetings with program staff and families as required.

  • Maintain accurate documentation in OCCMS/municipal databases and uphold privacy standards (MFIPPA).

  • This position, at times, requires you to directly assist child care center's with providing support as needed to ensure a child’s successful transition or placement.

  • With support of their Supervisor, coordinate and monitor enhanced support worker funding and the associated progress plans.

  • The majority of time (90%+) is spent working directly within child care center's.

  • This position is considered a “field role” in that your home base changes each day depending on which centre you are scheduled to attend.

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements (OHSA), CCEYA 2014, CWELCC, and municipal policies.


Essential qualifications



  • College Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) in good standing required, or a combination of experience and formal education with early childhood education and/or developmental support; Resource Teacher certification as an asset.

  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in early years or children’s services; experience in coaching and adult learning preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of child development, inclusion strategies, and reflective practice.

  • Demonstrated understanding of DEI principles, Truth and Reconciliation, and inclusive pedagogies.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management/sector systems (e.g., OCCMS).

  • French language proficiency considered an asset.

  • First Aid and CPR Certification, an asset


Work environment/hours of work



  • This position works mostly indoors

  • This position will attend different site’s each day and may qualify for mileage reimbursement.

  • This position works weekday and evening hours with occasional weekend hours. This position does not qualify for flex program but employees may be compensated via lieu hours.

  • Community-facing role with extensive on-site presence across licensed child care, licensed home child care, and EarlyON programs in Chatham‑Kent


Working Remotely


This position has been approved for remote working, at the discretion of the supervisor based on the Working Remotely Policy.


This position may be required to attend on-site meetings in order to complete essential responsibilities of the role.  As per the Working Remotely Policy, employees scheduled to work remotely on a certain day may occasionally be called to a municipal onsite work location on short notice.  Employees must remain flexible to accommodate municipal requirements and be prepared to be called in on short notice.


Driver’s licence/vehicle requirements


Because this position would be required to travel, a valid Province of Ontario driver's license with a reliable motor vehicle is necessary.


Background check requirements


Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check prior to commencement of employment. A background check may include the following: education/certification verification and employment reference check. Because of the environment this position will be working in, the successful candidate will be required to furnish an original Police Information Search (criminal reference check) (working with vulnerable persons) prior to commencement of employment; you must be 18 years of age or older to obtain a vulnerable police check.


Essential physical and/or safety requirements



  • Sitting: frequent sitting in a chair (working at a desk, sitting during a meeting, driving).

  • Hands: frequent mousing (writing reports, using a computer and mouse, daily correspondence, data entry and notes).

  • Reaching: occasional reaching above shoulder, below shoulder, forward, backward, handling


Benefits


This permanent full-time position has an annual salary of $73,195 to $82,743 and will receive benefits including: participation in the OMERS pension plan (mandatory) as well as sick and vacation entitlements. Following successful completion of a 3-month waiting period, candidates will also be entitled to a comprehensive group benefits package.
