Indigenous Cultural Program Instructor (9-month Term)

Hourly Wage: $18.90 per hour


This position is a 9-month term (March 2026-December 2026). This is an hourly position, working up to 40 hours per week from Monday-Friday, holidays, evenings, and weekends will be required.

Creating the future vision for one of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada’s most prized treasures, Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC) located at 55 Pavilion Crescent in Winnipeg is the not-for-profit organization that oversees Assiniboine Park’s operations and ensures its ongoing redevelopment and financial viability. Our team is inspired to create and deliver extraordinary experiences for the people who visit and use the Park and Zoo including building friendly, supportive, effective relationships with stakeholders, community and the general public.  


The Opportunity


We are seeking an Indigenous Cultural Program Instructor who will facilitate Indigenous & non-Indigenous programming designed by the Education & Programming department and will provide direct support to the Education Coordinators in delivering high quality, interactive and informative interpretive programs for children, families, schools, and organized groups that visit the Assiniboine Park, Zoo, and The Leaf.


Reporting to the Manager, Education & Programming, the Indigenous Cultural Program Instructor will be involved with the development of new Indigenous programming. With mentorship from the Manager, Education & Programming, the Indigenous Cultural Program Instructor will gain experience in how new programming is developed and evaluated to ensure it meets the recommendations of partnered Indigenous community members while being connected to the strategic goals and initiatives at Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC).


Required Education, Training, and Experience



  • A high school diploma and/or GED equivalent.

  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Cultural Studies, Education, Recreation, Environmental Sciences, Early Childhood Education, or other related field or be working towards a degree.

  • Minimum two years’ experience as an instructor, tour guide, program facilitator, or working with youth is preferred.

  • A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, Indigenous history, perspectives, knowledges, methodologies, and cultural practices.

  • Lived experience as an Indigenous person is a key asset for this position.

  • Experience working with/in Indigenous groups and/or communities an asset.

  • Knowledge of, or fluent in, an Indigenous language considered an asset.

  • Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check mandatory for this position.

  • Possession of a valid Manitoba Driver’s License, or the ability to meet the travel requirements of the role.

  • Current First Aid and CPR 

  • Proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office and a demonstrated aptitude for quickly learning new software programs.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
