LOCATION:  Hybrid - regular travel to communities within Maamwesying OHT service area

The opportunity: Reporting to the MOHT Operations Manager, the Indigenous Cultural Safety Project Coordinator supports the planning, implementation, coordination, and ongoing administration of Indigenous Cultural Safety initiatives across Maamwesying OHT and partner organizations. Working collaboratively with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, partner organizations, and external advisors or consultants, the Coordinator supports relationship-building, learning opportunities, resource development, project coordination, and reporting activities that advance Indigenous Cultural Safety and reconciliation priorities. The Indigenous Cultural Safety Coordinator will act as a key resource and advocate, working to embed Indigenous cultural safety principles into all aspects of the OHT’s operations, policies, and practices.

What you need to bring with you: 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

• Diploma or degree in Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Health Sciences, Public Health, Community Development, Education, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education, lived experience, and relevant work experience will be considered.


• Minimum 2-5 years of experience supporting projects, programs, partnerships, or initiatives involving Indigenous communities, Indigenous organizations, healthcare, education, community development, or a related sector.


• Experience supporting project implementation, workplan tracking, reporting, and administrative coordination.


• Experience working respectfully with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous-led organizations is strongly preferred.


• Knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Truth and Reconciliation, anti-Indigenous racism, and Indigenous health priorities.


• Experience coordinating projects, meetings, events, learning opportunities, and engagement activities


• Project Management certification or training would be considered an asset.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Strong understanding of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Truth and Reconciliation, anti-Indigenous racism, and Indigenous health priorities.


• Knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols and relationship-based approaches to engagement.


• Strong organizational, coordination, and time-management skills


• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build respectful working relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, partner organizations, and healthcare partners.


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• Strong facilitation and meeting coordination skills.


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.


• Strong attention to detail and ability to prepare reports, presentations, and project documentation.


• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.


• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.


• Knowledge of local Anishinaabemowin language and culture is considered an asset.

What to expect?

Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time-to-time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar may occur.
