The Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN), or the T’exelcemc (people of WLFN) have belonged to the Secwepemc (or Shuswap) Nation for over 6500 years. Today, the WLFN community includes a growing population of over 800 registered members who live on reserve in Sugar Cane, in nearby Williams Lake, BC, and across the globe.

POSITION

As part of the Education Team, the Indigenous Education Enhancement Worker (IEEW) supports WLFN students from K4 to Grade 12 within SD27, FN schools, and Independent with the goal of enhancing student success and overall educational experience. The IEEW demonstrates strong organizational skills, professionalism, and the ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities while working collaboratively as part of a team and respecting Indigenous culture, values, and traditions.

This position focuses on supporting WLFN students in K4 to Grade 6 with a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy development. For Grades 7 to 12 WLFN students, the role centers on academic enhancement, student success, personal growth, and career planning. The IEEW walks alongside youth, fostering a safe and supportive environment where students can be their authentic selves. The position works closely with Education Assistants, school counsellors, teachers, and Indigenous Support Workers to ensure students receive the guidance and support needed to thrive both academically and personally. The Indigenous Education Enhancement Worker will be reporting to Education Coordinator.

Employment Type

Permanent, full-time, 35 hours per week.

Probation Period

3 months from the date of hire.

Education Required

• High School Diploma – GED.


• Certificate or Diploma in Human Services or related field. Prefer minimum of 2 years post-secondary training in Psychology, Youth, Family and Community Studies, Ethnic Indigenous Studies or Indigenous Education.

Experience Required

• Minimum of 6 months of Youth and Family Worker experience or equivalent working with or providing support for Indigenous youth/parents/guardians and community.


• Certificate Training in Office Administration (Word/Excel etc.).


• Class 5 license.

• Level one First Aid and Emergency Youth First Aid.

• Food Safe.


• Class 4 unrestricted license or willingness to obtain.

Overtime Status

Non-exempt.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. School outreach daily and maintains contact with student(s), parent(s), teacher(s), and Principal(s), and Schools.


2. Assist students to foster positive relationships with their teachers, families, and peers.


3. Relays important information to the Education Coordinator regarding the student to and from the home and school. Monitors and tracks in MyEd/CIMS online programs (e.g. grades, attendance, additional support needs).


4. Facilitate a learning climate that is open and non-threatening.


5. Facilitate a learning climate to solve problems with critical thinking skills.


6. One on one support and gather assignments with students who are not reaching grade level or need to assist in reaching completion.


7. Student transportation may be required when needed.


8. Maintain student intakes, career profile records of personal goals, courses each semester of each student while using positive techniques to enhance learning, motivate and build confidence in students' performance.


9. Check in daily and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with the Education Coordinator on students' progress, assignment completion, and difficulties that may relate to students' academics- or personal struggles that may need other supported resources.


10. Attend School Based Team and Individualize Education Plans Meetings as needed.


11. Confidentiality must be respected by the IEEW including information of the student and families involved.


12. Collaborate respectful communication with Students/ Community, SD#27, FN School, and Independent Schools,


13. Supports the mission, vision, and values of Williams Lake First Nation.


14. Contributes to the WLFN's ongoing success by accomplishing other duties as required or assigned.
