Proximity Institute Posting for Board of Director Membership 



Proximity Institute is searching for an individual aspiring to be an Ontario hospital CEO to join our Board of Directors for a two-year, non-renewable term. This is a targeted recruitment for individuals who have participated in Proximity’s Propel program.



The Impact You'll Make


As a member of our Board of Directors, you will bring a deep understanding of the complexities of hospital leadership and experience on the path to CEO. Your experience will be invaluable in guiding strategic priorities, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring Proximity continues to support Ontario hospital leaders who aspire to the CEO role. You will help shape decisions that directly impact the development of Ontario hospital leaders, stakeholder trust, and the long-term sustainability of Ontario hospitals.



What You'll Do



  • Provide strategic oversight and governance to ensure Proximity Institute’s purpose, mission, vision, and values are upheld.



  • Leverage your leadership experience in hospitals to provide valuable insight on how to build a robust provincial leadership pipeline.



  • Contribute to the development and monitoring of strategic plan, and fiscal stewardship.



  • Champion stakeholder engagement, ensuring diverse voices and perspectives are represented in decision-making.



  • Collaborate with the CEO and executive leadership to evaluate performance, manage risk, and drive innovation.



  • Serve as an ambassador for Proximity Institute, fostering trust and building partnerships.



Priority Areas of Expertise


This recruitment is specifically targeted based on upcoming Proximity Board transitions and a Board skills assessment.


 


 


Position Profile – Aspiring Ontario Hospital CEO: 


This position is for an Ontario hospital leader who aspires to lead at the CEO-level in the future. This individual has actively considered their development path and is pursuing acceleration through some or all of: conversation with mentors, assessment of readiness to lead, and deliberate exposure to targeted areas of growth and development.



This individual can provide firsthand perspective about the conditions and challenges of pursuing the CEO role, providing valuable insight to Proximity Institute management on how to support aspiring leaders and build a robust provincial leadership pipeline to hospitals.



Additional Qualities You’ll Bring 



  • Exposure to leadership development and succession planning activities and principles



  • Deep understanding of healthcare policy, funding models, and regulatory frameworks.



  • Exceptional strategic thinking, diplomacy, and consensus-building skills.



  • Experience in financial oversight, risk management, and performance monitoring at the board level.



  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and culturally safe care.



  • The ability to dedicate the time and energy required for active participation in board and committee meetings.
