Job Description - Ink Technician

Labelink is a North American leader in printing solutions and an essential service provider to the packaging industry, offering products such as labels, flexible packaging (pouches), shrink sleeves, and RFID labels. Job Responsibilities:



  • Monitors the press schedule to formulate inks needed and the quantities of ink for upcoming jobs. Note priority jobs.

  • Prepare inks according to paper, anilox and presses used for the product conception.

  • Prepare ink formulas using existing inventory – i.e. first in first out stock where possible

  • Verify visually, and check the  colour conformity with spectrophotometers.  Continue with processing the ink until the desired state is achieved.

  • Maintains the ink formulation computer system and update the ink formulas as necessary.

  • Troubleshoots and solve  ink problems utilizing spectrophotometer.

  • Compares customer’s sample with PMS colour book, or blends inks and compare results with sample to determine formula required to duplicate colors.

  • Stage inks at press on cart ensuring pails are properly labelled to identify  the jobs that the inks are associated to.

  • Prepares ink drawdowns for new customers and saves in the ink system as required.

  • Document special mix or colour formulas for repeat orders.

  • Recover inks used by press operator and puts back into inventory on appropriate shelves according to the ink system

  • Place ink orders when inventory is low.

  • Manages ink inventory on an ongoing basis by entering updated information for all incoming, outgoing, and returned stock.

  • Practices  good housekeeping and 5S in work areas.

  • Performs any other production related work assignment as requested by the Team Leader or production management.


 


 


Education & Qualifications:



  • High school completed

  • 2 - 3 years of experience in a printing plant

  • Attention to detail

  • Excellent vision  and able to visually differentiate colours

  • Good color matching skills and have the ability to use pantone book.

  • Ability to use and read the spectrophotometer

  • Creative and innovative

  • Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Good analysis spirit and open to constructive criticism.

  • Ability to execute a particular request with a sense of urgency

  • Able to read, interpret and follow instructions

  • Methodical with good organizational and planning skills

  • Initiative-Able to work independently and in a team

  • Efficiency Resourceful and responsible person

  • Must be able to work shift hours and weekends when required

  • Applies good safety and quality practices

  • Able to stand 8 hours per shift and lift 30 lbs

  • Adaptable to change in process improvement and technology

  • Observation skills

  • Flexible and co-operative

  • Good team spirit and attitude
