Job Summary:

Primary Function

This role is responsible for designing and developing education and training solutions for external audiences on technical subjects, staying current with industry trends. They use adult learning theory, learning design models, and competency-based learning to create educational products that align with CSA Group’s standards and codes. They conduct job task analyses, identify learning needs, and collaborate with external subject matter experts and the Product Management team to ensure content accuracy and relevance. They also incorporate assessments to evaluate learner competency.  They enhance end-user understanding, performance, and adoption by creating engaging learning materials. They identify and improve learning design models and competency-based approaches to meet CSA Group’s evolving business needs, contributing to the organization’s long-term goals.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Understanding the Business

  • Applies adult learning and instructional design theories, practices, and methods to create effective learning experiences that meet project learning objectives
  • Ensures products are designed to meet accommodation/accessibility requirements
  • Utilizes various authoring tools, learning management systems and AI resources to deliver high quality, current, learning content
  • Recommends/develops assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of training programs and make data-driven improvements
  • Identifies improved ways for applying systems and approaches to meet CSA’s evolving education product needs
  • Researches and identifies new methods and systems to meet the changing needs and expectations of learners consistent with current learning theories and approaches

Works Well with Others

  • Provides extensive guidance to project resources including subject matter specialists and outside vendors to develop content that aligns to learning objectives and outcomes 
  • Supports effective product design and development by solving/resolving stakeholder and content problems in a timely manner, with the ability to recognize systematic issues which require further redesign or development
  • Guides efforts of the Production Coordinator regarding authorization for use of external materials as needed including technical subject matter graphics, translations and other value-added items as appropriate to ensure all necessary items are in place for product development
  • Collaborates with Education Product Managers and subject matter specialists (SMS’s) to identify and define the target audience’s problems/issues/needs and recommend appropriate solutions 
  • Participates/monitors pilot deployment of courses and conducts evaluation to validate that courses meet the defined learning objectives and learning outcomes

Delivering Results

  • Responsible for product development, including design, development, quality assurance, publishing, and maintenance of new or existing education products for CSA customers across various industry sectors and occupations
  • Engages the learner through suitable activities and delivers on learning outcomes
  • Conducts role-based needs assessment by facilitating practitioners to break down complex jobs/tasks and processes into manageable, teachable components
  • Uses problem solving skills to work with subject matter experts to deliver high-quality learning products that meet the needs of the learner
  • Provides support to end users by promptly resolving issues related to learning product design
  • Manages resources and content for multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Post Secondary Degree or Diploma in the sciences, humanities, engineering, trades, business or other related area
  • Postgraduate certificate, diploma or degree in instructional design, adult learning or equivalent
  • 5-7 years of related work experience
  • Experience in needs assessment, job task analysis facilitation
  • Experience developing adult learning coursework
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Strong PC skills, including Adobe Cloud software, Articulate 360, MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Occasional travel is required for this position

The typical hiring range for this position is $86,160 - $113,090 CAD gross annually. The actual base pay offered will depend on factors such as education, licenses, certifications and experience. As part of our total rewards offering, permanent employees in this position may be eligible for our annual bonus program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
