Salary range: $121,199.00 to $137,539.00 per year, 37.5 hours/week 

Northern Allowance: $19,454.00 per year

As this may be a term position, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval. This does not apply to successful appointees choosing Remote Work. 

Reporting to the Manager, IQ Programs, the Instructor, Inuktitut Language Program is responsible for developing, delivering and evaluating Inuit Language courses that meet student needs and Nunavut Arctic College standards. The position supports the ongoing growth and development of the program while maintaining high-quality instructional materials and effective learning opportunities for students. The position may also be required to teach additional courses within the Inuit Languages and Culture Programs Division. 

Main responsibilities for the Instructor, Inuktitut Language Program include:

• Developing and delivering Inuit Language courses using a variety of instructional methods. 

• Preparing course materials, assessments and instructional resources. 

• Assessing student progress and providing feedback and academic support.

• Recommending curriculum, resource and program improvements. 

• Maintaining student attendance, progress reports and course records. 

• Providing guidance, counselling and referrals to students as required. 

• Supporting student recruitment, orientation and program activities. 

• Maintaining professional knowledge and instructional skills. 

• Travelling to other communities for course delivery when required.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with two (2) years of related teaching/instruction experience. Fluency (written and oral) in Inuktitut is required. A Certificate in Adult and experience teaching and supervising adult learners is considered an asset.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in Inuktitut is required for the position. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land,Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
