Position Summary


Bow Valley College’s School of Community Studies is seeking a dedicated and experienced Instructor to join the Social Work Diploma program in a casual faculty role for spring 2026, and spring and summer 2026 practicum instruction and supervision.  Faculty members are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, evaluating student progress, designing and updating curriculum and instructional materials, and supporting students in achieving the learning outcomes of their courses and programs. The successful candidate will bring extensive professional experience in the social work field, a strong commitment to student-centered teaching, and the ability to teach social work courses across a variety of learning environments.



The Instructor provides quality instruction in assigned courses (approximately 50% of the role) by developing lesson plans, selecting effective instructional strategies, and provide guidance during practicum experiences and seminar instruction to meet diverse student needs. The Instructor evaluates student performance on an ongoing basis, provides timely feedback and progress reports to students and administrators, and maintains accurate academic and practicum records. Casual faculty may contribute to curriculum development and updates in collaboration with the Program Chair to ensure relevance and alignment with industry standards.



Supporting a positive and inclusive learning experience for students is a core responsibility (approximately 25%). This includes meeting with students to address academic or conduct concerns, identifying and escalating issues when appropriate, referring students to institutional supports, and ensuring approved accommodations are implemented.



A key component of this position involves building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders (approximately 15%). The instructor remains current with changes in the social work and human services sectors and adapts curriculum accordingly This role also includes practicum responsibilities, such as developing and maintaining relationships with practicum agencies, conducting site visits, and providing student supervision and support throughout the practicum experience.



Additional responsibilities (approximately 10%) include adhering to College policies and procedures, completing required professional development, demonstrating the ability and willingness to participate in applied research, and undertaking other duties or special projects as assigned.



Responsibilities encompass all faculty professional duties related to instructional delivery, including teaching preparation; program and course development; evaluation; student support such as remediation and consultation; participation in special projects and College committees; and other related duties as assigned.


The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in a related field, preferably a Master of Social Work, along with a minimum of four years of related professional experience. Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers and a Police Information Check including the Vulnerable Sector are required. Preferred qualifications include supervisory experience with practicum students or staff, the ability to work to full scope of practice, teaching and curriculum development experience, strong industry connections, field experience, and a high level of organization.
