The Agency
The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a charity that reduces crime and makes Calgary communities safer by helping youth and adults make positive changes and move away from criminal behaviour. We do this by addressing the root causes of crime through housing, education, employment programs and support so that individuals have alternatives to breaking the law. CJHS is committed to restorative justice and an organizational environment that recognizes the dignity and worth of each person. CJHS values diversity and inclusion and welcomes qualified applicants from all walks of life.
The Program
Berkana House is a Community Residential Facility (CRF) for women on conditional release. Berkana House fosters a holistic environment of healing, empowerment, and respect. We are dedicated to supporting women to positively transition from prison back to the community. Berkana House offers a mother-child program, and children may reside with their mothers. An independent living model allows residents the opportunity to develop essential life skills while meeting the conditions of release that have been imposed. Staff are on-site and available 24 hours a day.
The Position
Reporting to the Team Lead and working alongside the Caseworkers, the Integration Coach will be focused on connecting residents to the community and bridging the gap in their transition from prison. In addition, the Integration Coach will also be responsible for building and maintaining professional relationships, providing weekly resident dinners, and the facilitation of the social club. This position will offer ongoing support to residents through conversation, role modeling behaviours, and activities to promote positive reintegration. The Integration Coach will also be responsible for added support within the facility, providing general supportive services to residents while maintaining the safety of the community. Supervision of resident activities in the house and the community is also an integral part of the position. Other duties will be required within the residential setting, including basic household chores. The successful candidate will have strong boundaries, effective communication skills, crisis prevention and intervention skills, and a strong ability to problem solve. A current criminal record check (CPIC) and Child Intervention Check (where applicable) are required (within the past three months).
