Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior API Software Developer/Integration Developer with 8+ years of experience responsible for creating and consuming APIs to translate functional specifications into working, tested applications. The successful candidate will develop detailed programming specifications, user interface designs, prototypes, write and/or generate code, compile data-driven programs, conduct unit testing, and debug code.

Key Responsibilities



  • Design and develop detailed RESTful API specifications, including endpoints, request/response models, authentication methods, and error handling.

  • Build clean, scalable, and secure REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot.

  • Design and implement modular, independently deployable microservices.

  • Develop applications that transform and route data based on business requirements.

  • Create comprehensive automated test coverage using tools such as JUnit, Mockito, or Test Containers.

  • Design and implement efficient relational database schemas.

  • Optimize APIs for performance, response time, memory usage, and throughput.

  • Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms using OAuth2, JWT, and other security frameworks.

  • Develop containerized applications utilizing Docker and Kubernetes technologies.

  • Implement monitoring and logging solutions for operational visibility.

  • Produce technical documentation, deployment guides, and operational procedures.

  • Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers.

  • Provide regular status updates on development progress and deliverables.

  • Resolve production issues, regression defects, and performance-related concerns.

  • Participate in on-call support for production issues, including occasional weekend support.

  • Assist with troubleshooting and providing operational support as required.

Mandatory Qualifications



  • Extensive experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs, including API documentation and testing.

  • Strong expertise in integration patterns and integration solution development using Spring Integration.

  • Deep understanding of microservice architecture and scalable, highly available systems.

  • Hands-on experience with Azure services, messaging queues, event-driven architecture, and asynchronous processing.

  • Strong SQL skills with experience using relational databases such as SQL Server or Oracle.

  • Experience implementing OAuth2, JWT, SAML, and related authentication and authorization technologies.

  • Experience transforming data across formats including JSON, XML, and CSV.

  • Ability to apply data transformation techniques such as mapping and normalization.

Desired Skills & Experience



  • Strong proficiency in object-oriented and functional programming using modern Java.

  • Extensive experience with Java, Spring Boot, and the Java development ecosystem.

  • Strong knowledge of REST API standards, HTTP methods, status codes, and best practices.

  • Experience with Spring Integration and enterprise integration technologies including JMS and AMQP.

  • Strong XML experience, including XSLT and XPath.

  • Experience with Azure Service Bus and event-driven architecture.

  • Understanding of security best practices, authentication, authorization, and encryption.

  • Strong experience writing automated unit and API tests.

  • Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, OpenShift, and container orchestration technologies.

  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging capabilities.

  • Experience mentoring junior developers.

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Have



  • Experience within justice, law enforcement, regulatory, or other public sector environments.

  • Previous experience working within government or public sector organizations.

Work Arrangement



  • Onsite requirement: 5 days per week in Toronto, ON.
