Intermediate / Junior Aquatic Biologist



Are you an experienced Aquatic Biologist looking to progress your career? We're looking for Junior/Intermediate Aquatic Biologist to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in our Mount Pearl NL, Halifax NS, Fredericton NB, Moncton NB, or Ottawa, ON office. The role will require travel to the Happy Valley Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador area.

A typical day on the job might look like:




  •  Conducting fieldwork related to aquatic habitat characterization

  • Field surveys may include electrofishing, fyke and gill net deployment and management, benthic sampling, water quality, stream habitat assessments, shoreline surveys, and eDNA sampling   

  • Collecting, organizing, and quality checking field data for integration into technical reports and regulatory submissions.  

  • Supporting the development of aquatic baseline reports, impact assessments, mitigation/compensation planning, permit applications, etc.

  • Working independently or as part of a field team.  

  • Safely operating boats, ATVs, and field gear in compliance with company safety protocols.   

  • Assisting with logistics and execution of field programs. 

  • Contributing to technical writing, data analysis, and production of figures and tables.  

  • Collaborating with Indigenous communities in the planning and implementation of fieldwork, where appropriate. 

  • Performing other duties as assigned, depending on project scope and team needs.



Educational & Experience Requirements:




  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in aquatic biology fieldwork, data management, and technical reporting. 

  • Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to manage field data, maintain QA/QC standards, and contribute to high-quality technical documents.

  • Experience with aquatic surveys (e.g., fish (freshwater), mussel, benthic sampling, water and sediment collection, habitat assessments) is required.

  • Comfortable working in remote locations for extended periods, often in rugged terrain and variable weather conditions.   

  • Ability to operate small watercraft and All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs); relevant certifications considered an asset.   

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow standardized field protocols.   

  • Maintenance, proper care, operation of technical equipment.  

  • Electrofishing, Benthic (CABIN, OBBN), and/or Stream Assessment related certifications considered an asset.

  • Wilderness First Aid and/or ATV safety training are considered an asset.   

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with GIS, GPS, and water quality instrumentation is an asset. 

  • Valid driver’s license required
