Job Description - Intermediate Mine Engineer

Terms of Employment: Full-time, Permanent Position


 


Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day

Since 2016, we’ve grown to own and operate a portfolio of five surface mines in the Peace River Coalfields of Northeast British Columbia. Duties & Responsibilities




  • Develop and maintain short-term and rolling mine plans, including bench designs, haul roads, waste dumps, and coal release sequencing




  • Prepare and update production drilling and blasting plans; work with contractors to optimize blast performance, fragmentation, and dilution control.




  • Ensure mine plans are executable in the field and aligned with equipment capabilities, operational constraints, and safety requirements.



  • Oversee conventional and GPS-based surveys to support mine development, reconciliation, and progress tracking.

  • Maintain accurate and current electronic mine plans reflecting pit, bench, and dump development.

  • Monitor plan compliance and adjust designs, sequencing, and priorities in response to changing site conditions and production demands.


 


Education, Experience & Qualifications



  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering.

  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)

  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in open pit mining operations, preferably in coal.

  • Demonstrated experience producing executable mine plans and working directly with operations and mining contractors

  • Strong working knowledge of mine planning, scheduling, and design software.


 


Technical Competencies & Skills



  • Ability to work a 5x2 schedule, consisting of 8-hour shifts.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate in English.

  • Comfortable working in an active open pit mining environment, including regular field exposure and varying weather conditions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risks and develop practical, field-ready solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in the use of computer systems and various software applications relevant to the role.

  • High attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and perform duties with minimal supervision.


 


Wage and Benefits


Conuma Resources takes pride in providing industry-competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package that truly values our employees. Specifically for the Intermediate Mine Engineer we offer an annual base salary range of $110,000.00 - $130,000.00, along with a variety of bonuses. These bonuses include monthly efficiency bonuses linked to safety and production, quarterly retention bonuses, and a performance bonus tailored to reward your contributions. Our benefits package also includes paid vacation and personal days, 7% RRSP matching, and 100% employer-paid extended health and dental care, among other valuable perks.
