Intermediate Survey / Construction Technologist

The Intermediate Survey/Construction Technologist is a key technical contributor who turns field data into accurate, client-ready construction survey deliverables. You will be the technical bridge between field crews and project management—owning data quality, building reliable surfaces and layout files, and helping teams make confident decisions in fast-moving construction environments. This is a critical role for our Geomatics group at an important time: as we expand locally and regionally, strong technical execution and consistency in deliverables directly supports repeat work, schedule certainty, and growth. What You Bring To WATT:

This role requires a solid technical foundation, sound professional judgment, and the ability to work independently in a consulting environment.

• Secondary education in Geomatics, Surveying Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience


• 5+ years of experience in construction surveying


• Working knowledge of surveying principles, municipal standards, and coordinate systems


• Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings


• Proficiency with survey and drafting software (Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center)


• Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills


• Experience with 3D scanning (Leica Suite) and UAV data processing (Agisoft) is an asset

What You Will Do At WATT:

Survey Data Processing and Analysis

Ensure field data is processed accurately and consistently so construction teams can rely on layouts, grades, and quantities without rework or uncertainty.

• Process and quality-check field data from GNSS, conventional, and machine-control surveys


• Perform construction layout, volume, and grade calculations


• Interpret engineering, architectural, and IFC drawings


• Create and analyze survey points, surfaces, and layout files

Drafting & Deliverable Production

Produce clear, accurate, and professionally presented deliverables that meet client expectations and regulatory requirements.

• Prepare as-builts, construction layout, and legal survey plans using Civil 3D


• Prepare plans and documents for client and regulatory submission 

Quality Control & Technical Oversight

Maintain high technical standards across deliverables to reduce project risk and ensure consistency as workloads and project complexity increase.

• Conduct pre- and post-stake checks including grade sheet preparation


• Ensure compliance with municipal standards and professional regulations 


• Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions


• Maintain organized project files and project tracking

Field & Office Coordination

Act as a technical point of continuity between field crews and project teams to resolve issues efficiently and keep projects moving.

• Coordinate with field crews to resolve technical issues 


• Prepare field files and data packages


• Provide technical guidance to junior technologists 

Safety & Compliance

• Actively participate in and promote the company safety program and OH&S compliance.


• Ensure field and office activities comply with corporate policies, professional regulations, and applicable standards.

What Success Looks Like:

After 6 months:

• Independently processes and delivers construction survey data


• Produces consistent, client-ready drafting and layout files


• Effectively communicates and coordinates with field crews to resolve technical issues


• Demonstrates strong understanding of municipal standards and internal QA/QC expectations

After 12 months:

• Owns complex survey deliverables from data intake through final submission


• Acts as a technical resource for junior technologists and field staff


• Identifies opportunities to improve workflows, data quality, or efficiency


• Is trusted to support high-priority or schedule-sensitive projects with minimal oversight
