Role Description:

Arcadis is seeking an Intermediate Urban Designer to undertake a diverse range of urban design projects including master and site planning, transit-oriented development, development applications, smart cities, guidelines, and strategic planning and design. Design excellence and knowledge of Urban Design and Master Planning is key to this role, with a background of Architecture preferred.

This is a hybrid role within the Urban Design studio, based out of our Toronto office. Office location is accessible by public transportation (subway and streetcar).

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with Urban Designers / Architects/ Planners / Landscape Architects on a variety of private and public sector urban design, architectural, master planning and planning projects; 


• Collaborate in the preparation of accurate and legible plans, graphics, 3-D views, mapping and illustrations using CAD, Adobe Suite, Sketch Up and GIS; 


• Produce concept design (hand sketches preferred) with strong design narrative, schematic designs and carry those through design development;


• Produce high quality graphic presentations and reports; and


• Contribute to proposal and urban design brief writing, undertaking research, develop policies and guidelines etc. 

Skills and Qualifications:

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications identified below. 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Undergraduate University degree (Bachelor) in Architecture (considered an asset), Urban Design, Landscape Architecture or Planning;


• 3 or more years of relevant working experience in a professional Urban Design, Planning, Landscape Architectural or Architectural firm;


• Project portfolio showcasing Design Excellence and creativity in concepts, schematic design, and design development; and


• Strong graphical communication skills - Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, Sketch Up is required. Working knowledge of GIS, BIM and Revit is an asset.

Preferred Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

• Graduate university degree (Masters) in Urban Design or Architecture from a reputed University is considered an asset; 


• Multidisciplinary interests (in Urban Design, Landscape Architecture / Transportation / Urban /Regional Planning);


• Comprehensive knowledge of current planning bylaws, standards, guidelines and design issues; 


• Inquisitive and self-motivated individual with good organizational skills;


• Capacity to multi-task, keen eye for detail/precision;


• Capacity to deliver in challenging project time frames and deadlines;


• Able to read and understand zoning by-laws, technical surveys and plans;


• Strong written and verbal communication skills – Ability to draft professional documents related to urban design (e.g. Urban Design Briefs & Justification);


• Ability to hand sketch design concepts; and


• Driver's license is an asset
