Job Description - Intermediate UX/UI Designer

**This is a hybrid position in Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver

Industrial operations software company that leverages deep knowledge of operational challenges and technological expertise to revolutionize the process industry. By integrating adaptive self-learning solutions,the company enhances process control systems to securely gather and transmit data, providing predictive insights for better decision-making. Their approach connects key operational outcomes to drivers, helping operators achieve excellence and capture value through modern technology.

The UX and Product team is looking to onboard an intermediate UX/UI designer with strong experience in building out and maintaining a design system. The role is a hybrid in-office role in Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver with some percentage in the office.

Reporting to the Product Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the creation and maintenance of the UX/UI used throughout the company's applications. You will contribute to UX research, design, and testing strategies to ensure the applications support industrial users' needs. The industrial software space presents unique challenges and requires a driven, self-starting individual who enjoys exploring uncharted areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to long-term design and UX strategies that will enable the growth and scale of the company's design systems.
  • Create and maintain efficiencies through the implementation of design systems, standardized UI frameworks, and iterative product development.
  • Follow established best practices around user testing and research to ensure user needs are understood and concepts can be rapidly validated and delivered.
  • Independently uncover and interpret abstract and complex scenarios, synthesizing them into meaningful solutions.
  • Facilitate the product vision and roadmap by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping, and user testing experiences for the platform.
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, visual and graphic designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, and mockups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
  • Make strategic design and UX decisions related to new and existing functions and features.
Job Roles and Scope:
  • Advise and guide on the implementation of UX research methodologies and testing activities to analyze and predict user behavior.
  • Adhere to style standards on brand, typography, and existing design system templates.
  • Collaborate with marketing, sales, data science, and software development team members.
  • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems collaboratively with the Product team and other stakeholders to devise elegant solutions.
  • Confidently present broad conceptual solutions to critical audiences using sound evidence, logic, persuasion, and diplomacy.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of UX design experience, with a focus on enterprise applications.
  • Fluent in Figma and Material UI components.
  • Certification from established design or user experience institutions.
  • Experience with information architecture, interaction design, and web-based applications.
  • Demonstrable experience authoring and implementing comprehensive usability testing programs.
  • Ability to work with clients and stakeholders to understand and define detailed project requirements.
  • Fluency in UX design philosophies, best practices, and methodologies.
  • Experience contributing to agile software methodologies, particularly Scrum.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-based environment.
  • Exceptional command of written and spoken language.
  • A comprehensive portfolio demonstrating creativity, fluency in design software, aesthetic and technical solution designs, and properly created and maintained asset libraries.
Nice to Have Experience (Major Bonus):
  • Experience in the fields of Industrial Software, Industrial Process Industries, Process Control, AI/ML visualizations.
  • Experience with Storybook and Webflow.
  • Experience mentoring junior UX/UI team members.
