Location: Multi (Main Building, Shelter, and Mercy House)
Shifts: 8-hour shifts; evening/weekend flexibility; on-call required

The Custodian Lead oversees daily custodial operations at The Gathering Place, ensuring consistent, high-quality cleaning across all locations. In addition to cleaning, the Lead supports the team on shift, coordinates tasks, manages supplies, and enforces safety protocols. The role promotes a safe, respectful space for Guests, staff, and volunteers by modeling professionalism, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the custodial team, ensuring thorough and timely cleaning.


• Oversee cleaning routines, especially in high-use areas.


• Help onboard and informally train new staff.


• Communicate with Facilities Manager on supplies, maintenance, and scheduling.


• Ensure proper supply use and WHMIS compliance.


• Reassign tasks and adjust schedules as needed.


• Perform daily cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting.


• Maintain professional conduct in Guest areas.


• Act as the contact for urgent cleaning/safety concerns.


• Follow and support all safety procedures.

What You Bring

• 2+ years of custodial experience, ideally in institutional/community settings.


• Leadership or team coordination experience is an asset.


• WHMIS training and chemical safety knowledge.


• Strong attention to detail, time management, and coordination.


• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.


• Calm, respectful communicator in Guest-facing settings.


• Self-directed, dependable, and confident decision-maker.


• Clear Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check required.


• Equivalent education/experience may be considered.
