Who We Are

The College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (CCHPBC, or the College) is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. The College regulates over 10,000 health professionals across British Columbia, including chiropractors, massage therapists, naturopathic physicians, and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners and acupuncturists.

Formed on June 28, 2024, through the amalgamation of four provincial health profession regulators, the College was established as part of the Ministry of Health’s initiative to modernize the health profession regulatory framework in B.C. Its primary role is to protect public health and safety by licensing and regulating health professionals and the settings in which they practice. This includes ensuring that every health professional within its purview is fully qualified to provide safe and ethical care. 

Position Summary

The Investigator is responsible for carrying out investigations of complaints, reports and other matters in accordance with Part 3 of the Health Professions Act (and as of April 01, 2025 the Health Professions and Occupations Act), as well as investigations of applicants or individuals engaging in unauthorized practice/use of title. The role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong evaluative, critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills to manage complaint enquiries and plan and conduct investigations in an unbiased manner. The Investigator will draft and present written investigation reports. 

It is essential for all College staff to contribute to a team approach with a public protection focus, delivering efficient services that align with and allow the College to meet its regulatory, strategic, and operational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of complaint and other investigations as assigned by the Inquiry Committee and college staff, including preparation of investigation plans, evidence identification, conducting interviews, preparing investigation reports, tracking, management of statutory timelines and developing summaries.  

• Conduct investigations in registration and/or unauthorized practice/use of title matters and sexual misconduct as directed. 


• Correspond with complainants, witnesses and registrants to obtain evidence and to communicate the status and outcome of complaints.  

• Attend locations to investigate, inquire into, inspect, observe or examine: a registrant’s practice; the premises, equipment and materials used by a registrant while providing health services; and, records created by a registrant while providing health services.  

• Conduct audits of a registrant’s practice as part of the monitoring of inquiry and discipline outcomes. 

• Appear as a witness at discipline proceedings conducted by the College as required.  

• Maintains knowledge of legislation and practices in regulation, identifying trends, risks and best practices.  

• Liaises with law enforcement as necessary.  

• Collaborates with regulators in BC and other jurisdictions to share best practices and develop common approaches to regulation.  

• Completes other duties related to Inquiry and Discipline as assigned. 


• Travels or commutes throughout the province of BC as required for audits, inspections and interviews. 


• Other duties as assigned by the Manager. 

Qualifications and Skills

• Five (5) years of work experience in licensing, legal, or regulatory investigations, preferably in a healthcare setting (or equivalent combination of education and experience). 


• Experience in interpreting legislative requirements and identifying and analyzing the implications on internal policies and procedures.  


• Knowledge of the Health Professions Act and a demonstrated understanding of regulatory functions and related administrative law principles.  


• Strong report writing, research, evaluative, analytical, and witness interviewing skills. 


• Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills. 


• Knowledge of and ability to apply trauma-informed practices in investigations.  


• Ability to discern fact/evidence and maintain objectivity. 


• Ability to maintain a high level of situational awareness. 


• Ability to maintain tact when dealing with diverse groups of people with different personalities. 


• Computer proficiency with a variety of relevant software applications. 


• Collaborative spirit with a passion for fostering regulatory excellence. 

Asset Qualifications and Skills

• Training, education and, or experience in trauma informed interviewing and investigations.


• Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Laws, Juris Doctor and, or completion of peace officer training from a police college.


• Current or previous Special Provincial Constable status.


• Experience managing complex investigations and disciplinary processes.

Application Process

The compensation for this position ranges from $112,282 –130,359 annually, based on a 37.5-hour work week. The starting salary will be determined by factors such as the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, experience, the salaries of peers within the same range, market conditions, and other relevant considerations.  This position will be working from the CCHPBC office Monday through Friday.
