Job Description - IT Support Technician

 


Skeena Gold + Silver is a Canadian mining company with a portfolio of exploration and development projects located in northwest British Columbia, Canada. Our current focus is on the revitalization of the high-grade, past-producing Eskay Creek gold-silver mine. Position Title: IT Support Technician  


Reporting to the IT Manager, the contract Site IT Support Technician provides hands‑on IT support for users, applications, and network and server infrastructure across the Eskay site. This temporary role supports onboarding and offboarding, troubleshoots and resolves hardware issues, deploys and supports workstations, peripherals, and field‑based Starlink equipment, and works across a number of remote site offices and technology deployments at several geographically diverse locations within the Eskay Creek site.


 


Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):  


IT Support and Troubleshooting



  • Act as primary Point of Contact on site for IT.

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to site-based users, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues.

  • Log requests and manage work through an existing ticketing system.

  • Accurately follow existing standard operating procedures for routine, repeatable processes such as onboarding and workstation setups.


Infrastructure Support



  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of endpoint, server, and network infrastructure.

  • Monitor network performance and implement fixes to ensure reliability and efficiency.

  • Troubleshoot, deploy and terminate structured network cabling.


Cybersecurity



  • Maintain existing security measures to protect against cyber threats and unauthorized access.

  • Patch and update software to remediate identified vulnerabilities as directed.

  • Utilize your experience and industry best practices to maintain Skeena’s cyber security posture.


Collaboration and Vendor Liaison



  • Liaise and collaborate with IT team based in Vancouver, multiple IT vendors, and partners.

  • Contribute to the creation of new documentation and standard operating procedures

The Ideal Candidate:  


Academic/Education Requirements:  



  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, a related field or demonstrable experience and firm grasp of technology fundamentals and their usage including endpoint and server operating systems and hardware, managed switches within segregated networks, firewalls and routing, and wireless network equipment and protocols.

  • Class 5 driving license


Required Skills/Experience:  




    • Several years of experience in IT support and infrastructure support and administration.

    • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, listen actively, and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

    • Ability to work cooperatively, support colleagues, and contribute to a positive, inclusive work environment

    • Adaptable and able to respond to changing conditions, learn quickly, retain a broad set of knowledge, and solve problems efficiently and effectively.

    • Commitment to safe work practices, personal accountability, and respect for the well-being of others.

    • Experience working and living in a remote-site, Fly In Fly Out role

    • Experience working in site-based IT roles during construction phase major infrastructure, or mining projects

    • Experience in supporting, deploying and troubleshooting: Starlink equipment, Ubiquiti wireless point-to-point / point-to-multipoint infrastructure, Proxmox and vmware Hypervisors, and iSCSI Storage Attached Network (SAN) devices

    • Experience optimizing 802.11x network standards and industrial wireless mesh technologies such as Rajant

    • Working at Heights, and JLG rig certificates


     


    Working Conditions  


    This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities.  This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation.     


     The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.       


    There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving objects.  


     


    Compensation


     The expected salary range for this position is CAD $35-45/per hour, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
