Job Description - Itinerant Settlement Liaison

Association for New Canadians is a non-profit, community-based organization dedicated to the provision of settlement and integration services for immigrants and refugees. 


 


Job Title: Itinerant Settlement Liaison 


Location: St. John’s, NL  


Position Type: 1 full-time position until March 31, 2026, with a possibility of extension pending budget availability and satisfactory performance 


Closing date: Until filled 


 


Reporting to the Manager of Temporary Resident Settlement Services, the Itinerant Settlement Liaison partners with local community-based organizations to enhance newcomer settlement. The role focuses on providing services for newcomers in the community and engages with newcomer youth and their families to identify needs, gaps, and opportunities. The Itinerant Settlement Liaison works closely with community partners to develop location-centred settlement programming and connections and assist individuals with navigating existing services that best meet their needs. This position will build strong stakeholder relationships and provide regular reports and recommendations through the life of the project. 


 


Roles and Responsibilities: 



  • Develop community partnerships in neighbourhoods to support newcomer families, expanding ANC settlement service outreach 



  • Develop community/neighbourhood programs and services that are culturally sensitive and trauma-informed 



  • Enhance collaboration between agencies supporting newcomer populations  



  • Work closely with individuals and families to identify needs and barriers and develop a plan to improve the settlement experience 



  • Support newcomers to build strong community connections 



  • Increase participation in community programs through program development and delivery of cultural appropriate topics of interests 



  • Promote public awareness and support of recreational programs by engaging stakeholders 



  • Record and compile client statistics and accomplishments to accurately include in monthly activity and narrative reports 


 


Qualifications and Experience: 



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or related field with 2 plus years’ experience supporting vulnerable populations 



  • Skilled in relationship building and stakeholder engagement  



  • Skilled in identifying barriers and developing an individual and/or family support plan to encourage program participation 



  • Champion of community engagement, inclusion, and participation 



  • Experienced in modifying or creating programming to support client needs 



  • Ability to effectively engage with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external 



  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication (both written and oral) skills 



  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office package and G-Suite; and easily adaptable to funder reporting systems 



  • Able to work independently and as part of a team 



  • Great attention to detail and precision in report writing and compliance requirements 



  • Ability to speak a second language related to the newcomer population is an asset 


 


Conditions of Employment: 



  • Flexible to work outside of standard core hours (Monday-Friday, 9am -5pm) 



  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is  



  • Daily local travel is  



  • Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
