Location: Tr’ondek Hwech’in Offices – Dawson, YT 


Posting Date:  April 17, 2025 


Standard Hours Bi-Weekly:  80 


Start Date:  Immediately 


End Date:  One (1) year from start date 


Salary:  Level 3 Step 1 ($30.03 hourly)

The Jëje Zho (Men’s House) mandate is to provide safe and supportive shelter and services for men who are homeless (or at risk of being homeless). Reporting to the Jëje Zho Coordinator, the Support Workers provide support to the residents of Jëje Zho, help maintain order in the house, assist residents to achieve success in transitioning to housing and motivate residents to create individualized plans. The position will be involved in the design and delivery of program activities, in conducting research or evaluation of services, creating/fostering relationships with community programs. The incumbents help residents learn important life skills including budgeting, housekeeping, pet care, and knowledge of landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities. The position helps residents establish and maintain links with necessary services including health care, addiction treatment, mental health care, ID, job training or placement and volunteer opportunities. The Support Workers realize that for the residents, Jëje Zho is their home, transitional or temporary as it may be  


 


An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  



  • Grade 12 (or equivalency) supplemented with diploma/certificate in a social services or related field. An equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, and skills may be considered.

  • Experience working with and/or a demonstrated understanding of the multitude of concerns facing people experiencing homelessness, addictions, and mental health issues.

  • Experience working within a crisis, emergency and/or homeless shelter operation.

  • Computer-literate and familiar with MS Office including, Outlook, Word, Excel.

  • Strong knowledge of community resources and services.

  • Familiarity with Housing First principles, harm reduction practices and values, and delivery of anti-oppressive and trauma-informed practices.

  • Knowledge of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in government structure, culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures and socio-economic dynamics, challenges, and aspirations.

  • Punctual, reliable and dependable. 


Conditions of Employment: 



  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

  • WHMIS, Standard First Aid with CPR, Crisis or Non-Violent De-escalation training, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid Certifications, or willingness to obtain within one year of employment.

  • Ability and willingness to work all shifts (including day, evening and overnight).

  • TH101 Cultural Awareness training.
