SUMMARY OF DUTIES


 


Under the direction of the Superintendent of Transit Vehicle Maintenance, the General Repair Shift Foreperson is responsible for workflow and assignments including the control and safety of the general repair department and staff within the Transit Fleet Maintenance section, while maintaining a cohesive relationship with other work areas within Transit in order to maintain the high standards and objectives required within the Transit Division.  The General Repair Foreperson provides support and front-line leadership, administration and controls the workflow in the department.



GENERAL DUTIES


 


Plans, schedules, assigns, and directs the quantity of work performed to achieve and maintain optimal standards.


 


Maintains maintenance schedules, as per OEM, MTO and other recommended guidelines.


 


Ensures that work quality and quantity is performed to meet operational standards and required regulations.


 


Initiates, monitors and completes work orders in a computerized Fleet Maintenance System.


 


Makes recommendations to improve vehicle maintenance/service levels.


 


Demonstrates and promotes employee health and safety standards, City of Hamilton Policies and Procedures.


 


Ensures compliance with Provincial/Company/Division regulations, procedures, City policies and safe working practices are adhered to.


 


Records and reports details of any variances to the immediate Superintendent or Transit Vehicle Maintenance.


 


Completes, verifies, and forwards information such as vehicle maintenance schedules, employee shift changes requests, vacation schedules, accident reports, etc.


 


Contacts and coordinates with outside service providers for equipment repairs and shop services as required.


 


Inputs and retrieves computer data using various Transit related software.


 


Provides information/direction for modifications, projects, estimates, etc., as required.


 


Performs and directs repair and service work as required.


 


Attends meetings, training courses, etc. as required.


 


Assists Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent as required.


 


Performs any other duties as assigned which are directly related to the responsibilities of the position.


 


Works in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety


 


QUALIFICATION


1. Must have and maintain a valid 310T, Truck and Coach Technician Trade Licence.


2. Post secondary school courses in related technical areas and/or extensive demonstrated technical knowledge of transit vehicle maintenance an asset.



3. Knowledge and understanding of the following:


·       Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System legislation. (WHMIS)


·       Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments.


·       Ontario Human Rights Code


·       Motor Vehicle Inspection Safety Standards


4. Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid / CPR certification.


5.  Ability to direct, motivate, work effectively and lead employees in the work group.


6. Previous demonstrated experience with fleet vehicle maintenance normally acquired through a combination of education and relevant work experience is an asset.


7. Must be capable of working day, afternoon, night and weekend shifts.


8. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Ontario Driver’s Licence Class "C" with a "Z" endorsement.


9. Proven Supervisory experience and training is an asset.


10. Computer skills relating to Microsoft Office, Trapeze, EAM software and other related software an asset.


11. Must be capable of performing all physical requirements of the job including specified minimums for walking, sitting, lifting, and climbing in an industrial work environment.



12. Must be capable of performing specified minimums of typing and data entry, efficiently using the necessary computer programs in Transit.



HOURS:


 


40 per week


 


THIS POSITION REQUIRES A VALID CLASS “C” DRIVER’S LICENCE WITH A “Z” ENDORSEMENT AND PROOF THEREOF IS REQUIRED UPON HIRE.
