SUMMARY OF DUTIES


Reporting to the Supervisor, Clinics - CAS, conducts assessments, consultations and brief and time-limited therapy with infants, children, youth and their families, through individuals and group treatment.  Conducts other services as may be required.


 


GENERAL DUTIES


Provide clinical assessments of infants, children, youth in the context of families, subsystems as may be required for therapy or consultation purposes.


 


Conduct brief and structured therapeutic treatment using evidence-informed and best practice intervention techniques to address a wide range of mental health and social and emotional issues.  Assess and treat mental health issues and problems in living, whether cognitive, affective, or behavioural, within the context of the family and wider socio-cultural systems.


 


Conceptualize infant, children, youth and their families' concerns and subsequent intervention strategies including the awareness of and, when appropriate, consultation and advocacy with larger systems such as other health and social service agencies, schools and human services.


 


Carry a clinical case load adhering to established program benchmarks, which is specific and appropriate to the scope of practice and funding model.  Maintain client information system and documentation to meet requirements that reflect the aforementioned level of analysis and intervention.


 


Assess and manage the holistic needs of client families through referral and co-ordination of services to the assigned infants, children, adolescents and their families which make up the clinicians caseload.


 


May provide oversight and/or direction to students and/or volunteers.


 


May be involved in community liaison, talks and presentations to, schools, parent groups and community agencies as requested and deemed appropriate in consultation with Leadership.


 


Participate in and provide peer consultation in clinical practice team meetings and ad-hoc working group meetings as necessary and deemed appropriate in consultation with Leadership.


 


Attend and participate in staff and in-service meetings as may be required.


 


Participate in Clinic, Divisional and/or Departmental sub-committees as appropriate.


 


Participate in regularly scheduled clinical and administrative supervision sessions with the leadership team and annually take part in written evaluation and goal setting with the leadership team.


 


To keep abreast of professional developments within own professional field.


 


Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic interventions in specific evidence-based modalities as appropriate.


 


Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the duties of this position.


 


Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable Health and Safety legislation and all City of Hamilton corporate and departmental policies and procedures related to occupational Health and Safety.


 


QUALIFICATIONS



  1. Experience delivering evidence-informed and best practice modalities through structured, time-limited therapy, consultations and counselling and therapy with infants, children, youth and their families, and individual and group based, normally acquired through the completion of a Master’s Degree in Social Work.

  2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in conducting assessments, including Brief Solution-Focused Therapy, Single-Session Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Unified Protocol for Children and Adolescents, Emotion Focused Family Therapy and Play-based Dyadic Therapy.

  3. Registration and active membership with good standing in OCSWSSW.

  4. Proven experience conducting assessments, brief and time-limited therapy, consultations and counselling and therapy with infants, children, youth and their families.

  5. Demonstrated ability in assessment and interviewing skills, flexibility in adapting to change, interpersonal relationships and case management and service coordination.

  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision and in relating with a multi-disciplinary team and cross sectoral professionals.

  7. Demonstrated ability to relate with all levels of the community, with emphasis on working with diverse populations through trauma-informed and culturally safe care.

  8. Effective communication skills and demonstrated ability to relate to peers, individuals, families and groups.

  9. Working knowledge of computer software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).

  10. Highly effective facilitation, communication, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills.



NOTE: The successful candidate will be required to provide immunization records, which may include TB testing prior to the start of employment to meet the requirements of Policy HSW-01 Staff Proof of Immunity to Vaccine Preventable Diseases.



NOTE: Must have access to time and cost-effective transportation to meet program delivery needs.  A “G” Driver’s Licence and access to own vehicle is preferred.
