SUMMARY OF DUTIES

Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, Surveys, directs and work with a survey crew to plot and measure lines and angles in the City of Hamilton.  Uses ability to assume responsibility to develop ideas into completed projects independently as survey instrument person.

GENERAL DUTIES

• Direct and work with a survey crew using a wide variety of tools and equipment.


• Input and retrieve survey data from survey hardware and computers.


• Use survey instruments, data collectors and computers.
  


• Perform topographic and construction surveys to City standards.


• Search for survey evidence in the field.


• Record, analyze, verify, calculate, resolve and define precise survey positions and measurements.


• Analyze, edit and prepare raw data to finished project in digital and hard copy formats.


• Locate underground cables, pipelines and sewers.


• Perform confined space entries using Fall Arrest Systems and other related equipment.


• Write reports, compile statistics, store data, update databases.


• Develop horizontal and vertical geodetic networks.


• Operate a City vehicle.


• Receive and answer enquiries from staff, other departments, public and police.


• Complete time sheets.


• Train new staff.


• Testify in court on behalf of the City of Hamilton.


• Perform other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the position.
  

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Proven knowledge of theories and practices in surveying, normally acquired by attaining a Technician Diploma in a relevant discipline or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.


2. Previous experience in leading a survey crew as a party chief in charge of a survey crew performing engineering surveys.


3. Experience in a computerized environment.  Experience and knowledge in surveying software with proven ability to upload, download and process survey data in Micro Survey, Bentley InRoads and Microstation. Previous related experience in field data collection using total station and GPS receiver in conjunction with other survey field equipment.


4. Must possess a Class "G" Driver's Licence.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES A VALID CLASS "G" DRIVER'S LICENCE AND PROOF THEREOF IS REQUIRED AFTER HIRE.

HOURS:

35 per week
