# 04 Created: May 2019 SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 79 (Cowichan Valley) USW JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Journeyperson Plumber/Gasfitter DEPARTMENT : Maintenance REPORTS TO : Manager of Facilities or Designate SUMMARY: Skilled tradesperson working at the journeyperson level. Works under the direction of the Manager of Facilities or designate using independent judgment as to the method of performing the work after receiving oral or written instructions setting out the work to be performed. The employee provides plumbing/gasfitting services related to the construction, alteration and maintenance of District buildings, sites, grounds and equipment. DUTIES: Installs, alters, repairs and maintains plumbing, hot water heating and fire sprinkler systems and related equipment, devices and fixtures. Installs, alters, repairs and maintains piped and containerized gas systems and related equipment, devices and appliances. Assists in the assessment, design and estimating of projects. Reads and interprets drawings and specifications, determines material requirements, lays out projects and reports on work in progress as required. Conducts periodic testing to ensure the safe and efficient operation of plumbing and gas systems. Assists other employees as appropriate. May, on occasion, be required to perform other job related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Grade 12 education or academic equivalent Valid B.C. Provincial/Interprovincial Plumbing Tradesperson certificate with Class B Gasfitter certification Minimum two years related experience at the journeyperson level Physically capable to perform the job duties Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver's License and clear Driver's Abstract Knowledge in the use and care of tools and equipment common to this trade. WHMIS certificate
