JUNIOR LEGAL COUNSEL - Term role

 
Who is a Junior Legal Counsel?
As a key member of the Legal team, Junior Legal Counsel supports General Counsel and Associate General Counsel in delivering high quality legal services and advice to all areas of the business.

What will you be doing?

• Carriage / management of minor litigation files, including Small Claims, Human Rights, etc.
• Assists internal stakeholders by providing advice, guidance with the resolution of certain pre-litigation conflicts involving members and/or associates 
• Assists and supports senior counsel in litigation claims
• Prepares initial drafts of documents as requested, including pleadings, mediation briefs, affidavits of documents, etc. for the Vice President and Executive Vice President
• Conducts case specific research
• Manages document productions
• Assists Vice President with interviewing witnesses, assembling answers to undertakings, etc.
• Conducts legal research as requested on a wide range of commercial issues
• Drafts and review basic legal agreements
• Prepares initial drafts of internal policies and procedures as requested
• Provides updates to senior members of the Legal Team regarding relevant legislative and regulatory developments
• Researches and prepares legal opinions as requested
• Assists Privacy Officer in responding to access requests and addressing instances of non-compliance
• Provides legal advice and support to Marketing Department, including review of disclaimers and drafting contest rules

Do you have what it takes?

• LL.B or J.D. and a member in in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
• Completion of articles with a full-service law firm
• Strong academic credentials
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Strong analytical, interpretive and research skills
• Ability to work independently
