The PYP Visual Arts Teacher (Temporary) is responsible for developing and contributing to a dynamic, inquiry-driven Visual Arts program that fosters creativity, personal expression, and transdisciplinary learning for elementary students, in alignment with the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). Reporting to the Junior School Principal or designate, this temporary position will run from August 21, 2025, to June 26, 2026, with the possibility of extension for the following academic year. The candidate should be prepared to teach Kindergarten through Grade Five, depending on the needs of the school.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop an innovative, inquiry-based PYP Visual Arts program focused on elementary art pedagogy;


• Design and deliver engaging learning experiences that inspire students to thoughtfully explore and refine their artistic skills;


• Use contemporary teaching strategies and a variety of artistic media and techniques;


• Foster student agency by providing opportunities for choice, voice, and ownership in the creative process;


• Promote intercultural understanding and global perspectives through the exploration of diverse artists, cultures, and traditions;


• Collaborate with colleagues to support a transdisciplinary approach to learning;


• Partner with marketing and community engagement personnel to create student art for the annual gala;


• Display student artwork in hallways, staircases, and other visible areas of the school to celebrate creativity and build school culture;


• Organize and lead an annual Visual Arts Week with special lunchtime activities to promote artistic expression across the elementary school;


• Manage the sourcing, inventory, and replenishment of diverse art supplies to support instructional needs;


• Select and adapt instructional resources to meet a wide range of student needs;


• Build supportive relationships with students and families;


• Create a respectful and caring classroom environment;


• Integrate technology to enhance art instruction and learning;


• Upload photos and videos of student artwork to digital portfolios (Toddle) and document learning through exhibitions, portfolios, and reflective artist statements to celebrate growth and communicate progress with families;


• Design and maintain authentic assessments with timely feedback for students and clear communication to parents;


• Prepare reports, conduct conferences, and communicate regularly with parents;


• Engage in ongoing reflection and professional growth to continually refine teaching practice and curriculum design;


• Model strong work ethic, commitment, and professionalism in all interactions;


• Other duties as required.

All Southpointe educators provide co-curricular activities for students by either devising their own programmes or participating in the school’s Athletics offerings throughout the three different sporting seasons. 

Preferences

• IB PYP training or teaching experience;


• Valid First Aid Certificate.
  

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelor of Education or Equivalent;


• BC Ministry of Education: Certificate of Qualification or BC Independent School Teaching Certificate.

Salary 

• Southpointe's teacher salary grid will be 6% above the Delta public school salary grid at all levels of the grid;


• The annual salary for a full-time teaching position at Southpointe Academy during the 2025-2026 school year ranges from $68,422 to $116,091 based on placement on the approved teacher salary grid;


• Placement on the approved teacher salary grid is based on level of qualifications and duration of full-time teaching experience.
