Department: Ni'ehłyat, Nidähjì’ (Our Families, Our Future) 


Location: K’äjìt-in Zho Youth Centre – Dawson, YT

Standard Hours Bi-Weekly:  75 


Start Date: Immediately 


End Date: March 31, 2027 with possible extension or permanency 


Salary: Level 9 Step 1 ($108,595.50 annually)

Reporting to the Director of Ni’ehłyat Nidähjì’, the K’äjìt-in Zho Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient management, development and administration of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in (TH) child and youth programs and services, including the operations of K’äjìt-in Zho (Youth House), , short and long term planning strategies, creation of work-plans/budgets that align with TH Strategic Plan and values, proposal-writing, fundraising and overall supervision and performance management of the youth program employees. This position oversees and is responsible for cultural, recreational, social and educational program selections, design, development, coordination and the delivery of life enhancement programming with emphasis on Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in’s traditions, language, and culture. The position works cooperatively and collaboratively with the TH Justice, Wellness, Education and Heritage Department programs and teams, and with other TH Departments / community / territorial resources in order to meet goals, objectives and community expectations to the best possible extent. The position presents and gains feedback from the TH Elders Council and Youth Council, to update and consult on programming and youth supports. 



An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:  




    • Post-Secondary degree in health or social services, child and youth care or education, with a minimum of two years of experience working in a First Nation community providing cultural, social, educational or recreational programming. An equivalent combination of education, knowledge, skills and experience may be considered.  

    • In depth knowledge of wellness and of the TH social structure, traditions and cultural values and health, social and family issues affecting young First Nation people.  

    • Knowledge of TH culture and traditions and experience implementing First Nation values into youth programs and services.  

    • Strong knowledge of holistic case management and trauma informed practices.  

    • Experience with financial management, including budgets, resource management, proposal and grant writing.  

    • Demonstrated experience managing, supervising, coaching and performance managing staff members.  

    • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, manage, evaluate and report on holistic programs / services delivery.  

    • Knowledge of traditional and contemporary recreational activities, social and life skills programming and activities relevant to First Nations and small communities. 


    Assets:  



    • Knowledge of restorative theories and practices for children and youth. 

    • Knowledge of legislation and regulations relating to youth, Yukon Child and Family Services Act / Regulations, as well as knowledge of youth-oriented health, social and recreational policies. 

    • Knowledge of, or willing to learn, Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in government structure, culture, traditions, history, demographics, family structures, socio-economic dynamics, challenges and aspirations, basic phrases of the Hän language, as well as the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on individuals, families and communities. 





          Conditions of Employment: 



          • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. 

          • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clear driver’s abstract. 

          • Willingness to obtain a Class 4 Driver’s License. 

          • Standard First Aid certification. 

          • Mental Health First Aid, Vicarious Trauma and Trauma Informed Care certifications.  

          • TH101 cultural awareness training.
