Job Description - Kina'wenimowsowin Worker

The Kina’wenimowsowin Worker is a full-time permanent program position. Shall provides direct services to children who are in temporary or long-term care of Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority and the familial unit in supporting reunification. The Kina’wenimowsowin Worker will work in a multi-disciplinary Child Welfare team and provide case management services to ensure the needs of the child are met according to WCWA philosophy and the Customary Care Code.




Program Delivery (non-exhaustive)



  • Provides relevant, and competent service to all Wabaseemoong children, youth, and their families (on/off reserve) who either request or are determined to require WCWA Kina’wenimowsowin services.

  • Ensure program services are delivered with excellence and conform to Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority’s Customary Care Code, Manuals and Service Delivery Model, policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols.

  • Conducts assessments of family functioning by process of gathering information to identify child, youth, and family strengths, risk influences, and wellbeing utilizing tools created for Wabaseemoong families.

  • Develops, implements and tracks progress on service planning with child and family to support the goal of reunification.

  • Advocates on behalf of the child, build a trusting relationship, provide advice/support, and ensure the needs of the child are met.

  • Participates in the development of initial and future plan of care and short/long term service plans that are specific to the child/family needs.

  • Ensure Child Welfare Wellness Indicators are identified on a case-by-case basis.

  • Complete detailed narrative case notes for all designated files and ensure that proper collaboration with connected workers/departments are maintained.

  • Participates in case reviews and work collaboratively with internal resources to plan and facilitate service planning as needed without implementing final decisions.

  • Participates in Wiizokazowad/Onakonigewad meetings

  • Ensures accurate and timely completion of all required case documentation and recordings and statistical information

  • Provides safe, direct, relevant and competent services to children in care of WCWA, who require one to one supervision;

  • Make certain every child receives the highest quality of services through decision making that is done in the best interests and well-being of every child;

  • Provides and ensures if a child is in a placement outside of their home, that family, caregiver or one-to-ones have full and complete information on child, including, but not limited to, diagnoses, behaviors, schedules, prescribed medication, etc.



Qualifications



  • Minimum High School Diploma or one-year experience in related field. However, others with a combination of skills, education and experience may be considered.

  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the administrative structure and operations of Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority (WCWA), including the Customary Care Code, Manuals and Service Delivery Model, policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols.

  • Knowledge of the philosophy of service development/delivery, Wabaseemoong Independent Nations and family structure, local customs, and traditions.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports regarding service delivery and procedures.

  • Ability to establish and maintain purposeful relationships with clients.

  • Knowledge or Experience in working with high-risk/special needs children

  • Demonstrated ability to interact with children and establish/maintain trusting relationship.

  • Commitment to helping Anishinaabe children by providing services in ways that respect Anishinaabe cultural and spiritual practices.

  • Commitment to providing the highest level of confidentiality at all times.

  • Working knowledge of conflict resolution techniques.

  • Ability to follow direction, as well as work independently as needed.

  • Ability to flex daily work hours as needed.

  • Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver's License and be willing to travel.

  • Must provide a clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Driver's Abstract; Internal Records Check

  • Current First Aid, C.P.R. certificates and Crisis Prevention & Intervention

  • Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and a definite asset.
