Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working at one of our major site offices, with a strong preference for our Ottawa site office (1800 Alta Vista Drive) with a mixture of on-site and off-site work to meet the needs of our organization. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time.

About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary full-time Knowledge Broker to join our Knowledge Mobilization & Strategic Alliances team within the dynamic Innovation and Portfolio Management group of the Innovation division.



Our Innovation and Portfolio Management group is responsible for advancing transfusion and transplantation science and medicine by supporting a vast research and education network.


 


In this role, you will be responsible for developing relationships with strategic partners and collaborators to support the exchange of information and the identification of needs in order to facilitate evidence-informed practices and programs for those working in the fields of transfusion science and medicine. You will draw on existing evidence from research and work collaboratively with partners to provide tailored, evidence-informed guidance and practical tools to facilitate desired changes in practice, programs or policies. You will provide leadership in the planning, implementation, and reporting for knowledge mobilization and science communications initiatives, leveraging your understanding of knowledge mobilization best practices, methodologies and frameworks. You will also be accountable for making operational decisions for the day-to-day operations of projects, with support from the Associate Director.

Formula for success


  • Focusing on your demonstrated knowledge and expertise, you will define strategies for the knowledge mobilization of research activities undertaken by Canadian Blood Services or in partnership with Canadian Blood Services.

  • You will align strategies to support the goals of the Innovation division and the organization.

  • Utilizing your experience in stakeholder engagement and collaboration, you will develop and maintain dynamic and productive partner relationships.

  • Leveraging your strong interpersonal and communication skills, you will lead consultations with partners to identify barriers and facilitators in accessing, interpreting and using evidence from Canadian Blood Services research activities.

  • Harnessing your excellent organization and coordination skills, you will be responsible for the planning, management, development and implementation of specific activities to enable knowledge mobilization strategies.

  • You will evaluate knowledge mobilization activities to ensure that objectives and outcomes have been achieved.

  • You will promote a framework of continuous improvement and implementation of best practice standards with all activities.

  • Applying your strong focus on critical thinking and strategic problem resolution, you will identify issues requiring resolution, facilitate the resolution of these issues, and/or escalate the issue as required.

  • You will be responsible for maintaining awareness of in-progress and emerging research topics of interest to Canadian Blood Services for the purposes of identifying knowledge mobilization needs and minimizing knowledge to-action gaps.

  • Using your strong analytical skills and attention to detail, you will contribute to reporting to senior management and executive team.

  • Focusing on your ability to lead and work collaboratively across a diverse team, you will provide strong and effective leadership to direct reporting employees.

  • Performs other related duties as required. 

Desired education and skills


  • Post-secondary level education, preferably a master’s or doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., health sciences).

  • A minimum of three years’ related experience in knowledge mobilization roles (e.g., knowledge generation and synthesis; knowledge product development; knowledge translation, exchange, and dissemination; knowledge management; evaluation).

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills in English. French is an asset.

  • Experience in identifying, applying and evaluating effective practices in knowledge mobilization (e.g., communications, education, training, resource development).

  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, consultation and related data collection through a variety of mechanisms (e.g., surveys, focus groups and social media).

  • Experience in using IT to facilitate knowledge mobilization (e.g., digital platforms, websites, web-based collaborative platforms).

  • Demonstrated experience with project and/or program management; ability to create, manage and delegate project workplans; identify risks to timelines and strategize with senior leadership accordingly.

  • Experience and/or expertise in the field of transfusion, cellular therapies or transplantation, stakeholder/public engagement, non-profit management and/or communications are considered an asset.

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
